Tennis???? - What about the Formula One

I'll be the first to admit I'm no tennis fan, but I apreciate lot's of people are. I do find it irritating that TV schedules are upset & some programmes go missing altogether - not, I understand a big deal in the scale of life.
However, what a pity every news programme I have seen or heard today has NO mention of Lois Hamilton winning the British Grand Prix yesterday

Hello Sandra
I do see your point, especially when the football is on for weeks, and the olympics,if you arent a sports fan this can annoy.
Alas there are many who put much effort and hard work into sport not to mention money, dont some of them deserve our support.Lets face it we can always switch channels.

To be fair I do enjoy sport on tv - football - and I will be glued to the olympics. I just think it's a shame when a Brit does well we do not give him the positive media coverage. In fact, the media, seem happy to lambast the guy - he's only 22 after all.
I often switch channels (my hubby switches every 10 seconds if I let him.....lol) And with Satelite & digital there are hundreds to choose from.....never anything to watch though....
It's forunate that I have more hobbys than are good for one person and can turn it off altogether

Hi Sandra oh I do agree, I love tele and it infuriates me when everything is altered for sport, it always seems to be Gardeners World that is off as well. I don't like sport, I wish they had a separate channel just for that and the olympics will drive me bonkers, thank goodness for NCIS and Law and Order, where would I be without Hallmark.

Hello Sandra, Welcome to the Forum!!
I never have had time for sport, but do actually watch some Snooker, Tennis, Cycling and Rugby ------ Prefering 'Personal' effort against machines. Cannot stand football as it interfer's with other programmes!!
Sport should be shown for all Interests, Not just football. -- True!! there is a wide 'selection' of choice, if one can actually find something interesting ??

I stopped watching, or taking any interest in, football when players no longer came from the area they were representing. The winning team now relies on buying the better player, making it no longer sport, but big business.

HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD EVAC, NO SPORT TODAY LIKE WE KNEW IT.ITS ALL ABOUT MONEY.I DONT WATCH THE OLYMPICS EITHER, HOW CAN YOU BE SURE THAT THE WINNER HAS WON ON MERIT. IT IS A SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS WHEN SPORTSPEOPLE HAVE TO BE TESTED FOR DRUGS. HOW CAN YOU LOOK AT AND ADMIRE A TROPHY ON THE SIDE BOARD THAT YOU HAVE WON BY CHEATING.

I'm glad its not just me then, I don't like sport but when I hear so and so is coming over from wherever to play for a certain team, its all wrong, they should be local players from the local area, how on earth can the team be called Man. United when all its players are French or foreign. It just doesn't make sense.

Val you are right, but football fans want to watch the best gsme and football clubs have rich sponsors, so they buy the best players from all over the world for their team. It's the same in Germany. If you look at the German national football team you will see that there are a number of players not having German names - they have become naturalized to be able to play in the team.
Football is not only sport, but business!

Yes - I think it was so much better when teams had to have 'local' lads.
Much nicer to support someone from your own town - never mind your own country!

We've got local teams that play on the football pitch on Sundays, sometimes when walking the dogs we stop and watch, its so funny really, everyone shouting, players and spectators, sometimes a dog will join in but quickly gets out of the way, the language can be a bit blue but no one cares its fun and what I call entertainment. I haven't a clue who's playing even less who's winning but the atmosphere is good.

SPORT??? What a 'Wicked Word'--Today sport is 'Hidden' under the name of 'Big Business' with players?? from our lost world?? --- Remembering the earlier days of Cricket?? Yorkshire versus Lancashire etc. -- They actually DID Come from those Counties TOO!!!
The Games = Sport - Compertative - Respectful -----
A Typical English pastime without heavy cash payment
Also without the NEED for DRUGS
Hopefully??

Gosh, I really started something there! Is cricket the same? the best cricket match I saw was in the 1960s with the Lords Taverners playing. You can imagine the antics with Spike Milligan fielding. Don't remember who won, but it didn't matter. They all 'played' the game!

In case anyone doesn't know here are the rules of cricket.
You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out. When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out.
When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out. When both sides have been in and all the men have been out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game.
That should be clear now
