Hi....I'm new here and joined because I thought it might be a useful place to be.  I live in Plymouth, and am also having a property built in Turkey.  The plan is to spend some time in Plymouth, and some time in the warmth in Turkey.

Bernard, welcome to the forum. I'm living in Germany and we have a lot of Turks here - so my question what's the reason that you decided in favour of Turkey? It's warm there, that's true, but Turks have a different mentality - at least different from that of the Germans.

then why do the English prefer "sunnier" countries in the cold months. Two years ago when I was in Southern Spain in February it was crowded by English longing for a bit of sun.

Maybe as it is said, many Pensioners go abroad, during our Winter, to save on their home heating?? - I understand it works out quite cheap, for up to 3 months ??

Phoenix, they don't save such a lot, as their heating at home has to be switched on the whole winter, in order not to freeze - but on the other side they are between Brits again when they are in Spain - they just moved England to Spain lol

Hi Teri, The Heating need only be on Low Temp; to stop freezing. As we do on bad nights. -- Watched a TV. programme earlier this week, about the 'Brits' in Spain??  Many are having their homes broken into, by east europeon gangs, -- sometimes more than once!!

Sunshine ??  Seems most people go for 'warmer' climbes and i don't blame them. I will stay here where there is still so much to see:

As to the East European gangs breaking into homes, this is not only a problem in Spain, but also in my region.
My mother has a flat in Spain since more than 20 years and I cannot remember having heard from her that someone broke in. Perhaps they prefer the better off Brits - lol
