We are going on a tour with Leger tours in July. It commemorates the last 100 days of the war.We are going to pay respects to grand dad who was killed at the battle of the Hindenburgh  line. He was killed on 27th september 1918 aged 24years.My father was 18 months old when grand dad was killed.

My Father survived the great war,but he was gassed and apparently was never the same again. What a waste of young lives it was, both of british and german boys, lets hope it never happens again.

Hi Betty, The War Forum sounds very interesting, I must try it as that is one of my most important subjects.
I still 'bleed' for all those wasted lives, trusting all have learned, it is no way to live!! -- I guess we have all lost relations and friends, being hard to find a genuine reason, as to why??

Betty, I will Type in The Great War and see what i get on Comp: just in case of a different title:

Just a proposition - don't you think we should all try to live in peace with each other instead of keeping alive the past.
Some years ago I was in the Normandy when the French, British, Americans and Canadians celebrated their memorial of D-day. It's true it was a nasty war, but we had one German in our group who had been soldier in Normandy during this time and if you hear both sides - the picture looks quite different.
Apart from this, don't forget if we speak of the heros of war, we may awaken in the young generation the desire to become also heros of war - but to be honest in the end we all were "loosers", there are no winners.
I hope I didn't offend you - but my grandfather took part in WW I and he came back as a sick man, as he couldn't bear the cruelities of war.
So let's hope we will never again have a war in Europe.

As I have mentioned before "UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDE WE FALL" -- If Only ALL People would try to live in and for Peace Huh   Then and only Then, Could we all learn to help each other!! -- I don't feel there was any Heroes in our wars, only dead ones and they died in vain, for a better World for ALL, which has yet to come about!! -- I don't believe The past, should ever be forgotten, that way perhaps we all would Learn from The Past Mistakes and Vow, that would never happen again!!

Phoenix I think I already told that I read a lot of books about European history since I'm retired and in the end we continue making the same faults - see Afghanistan, Iraq - the only difference at the moment is that we don't have a war in Europe. Religion and power (money) always plaayed an important role.

Hello teri, Am happy for you, reading up on european history!! As you are well aware, the same mistakes are being repeated, again and again!! -- Religion and Money Power, behind it all -- that is not just my opinion!!
The eastern problems are not of our making, our Troops should be pulled out before anymore die!!

As the eastern problems, I think we still will get more problems and getting involved more than we wish.

Agreed!!  Too many problems and more in the future??
Nobody can put The World's problems to rights. Each Country should be responcible for it's own problems. A force of Arms surely, is not the only answer???

That's true, but there are such a lot of different opinions on this subject.

Are you sure, William. In Germany we say the most peaceful neighbour cannot live in peace if his neighbour doesn't agree and there are always desires.

There will alway's be differences of opinions, on evey subject we care to mention. We only 'formulate' our opinion based on our experiance. ---

There is alway's an oppotunity to 'compromise' ??
 OR?? We agree, to Disagree??

There are still people on our earth that have difficulties with coming to a compromise or they are just frustrate and want to pass on their frustration to others. I have such a neighbour and it's rather difficult with her.
