By the same token Pheonix, we do export a lot. I was in the channel isles some years ago and looking in the shops, found most things were made in England.
A farm near me Mac, grow acres of potatoes (second earlies) and they are the ones you find in tins,
The majority of family people in this area get a sack of potatoes from the farmer when they are ready, I always did.In Jersey they told me that every year it was a race between them and Lincolnshire farmers, who would have thier early potatoes ready first.

Wish we did export more!! But NO, We Don't, there is not the manufacturing, as there used to be!! Most companies consist of Offices, which give a service via, computer's.
When our Machine Tool Companies -- Dissapeared?? that was the beginning of the end, for production, to export:

The Channel Isles, belong to Britain!!
If there is a race, between the Jersey and lincolnshire farmers, that is the possible reason why Jersey New potatoes, are not as good as they used to be.
English Farm foods, take a lot of beating.

... that's really an interesting discussion.
We get early potatoes from Egypt or Cyprus and if you don't want to support the economy there you just wait until you can buy German early potatoes. O.k. it's true we don't have such a lot of agriculture at least in Southern Germany  with our hilly landscape - that's different in Northern Germany where the lanscape is flat as a pancake.

Mac, you are right - new potatoes at this season in our region - usually they come either from Egypt of Cyprus, at least in Germany.

I can assure Mac, they are Lincolnshire potatoes. Some farmers here have huge cold store barns in which they keep them,I believe they are sprayed too, to preserve them.
It does matter where they come from Pheonix, I said Lincs in a light hearted manner to counter act Macs Pembrokeshire tates. Egyptian new tates, are tasteless things.
