That's true there's a difference in the quality of homes, but it's up to you to change it. In Germany we have in some homes so-called "round tables" where the family meets with the directors to discuss the situation. Moreover, we have a home supervision. It's the task of the family or of the relatives to check the conditions in the home - at least in Germany. However, many people think that's asking too much of them. Just paying the stay in the home isn't enough - the family must still look after their mother/father.

Sadly Teri its a sign of todays times, when I was a kid family looked after each other, but then women didnt have the fabulously paid jobs they have now.I remember the elderly sitting at the front door on a chair and everyone who passed spoke to them, rather like a baby in a pram was.
Both are unheard of now !

Mac, don't forget we have now TV and everybody is sitting in front of his TV set and requires no longer someone to talk to.
When I was in Hungary some years ago, thee were still old people sitting on a chair in front of their houses, but in Germany this would look really strange.
If you want to talk to someone you go to shop round the corner (fortunately we still have one).

How nice to still have a 'corner shop'- somewhere for people to meet and chat too. - Yes, most people do have TV. to watch, Telephone to make a contact, instead of writing a letter. -- Those with Computer's have the best of it -- Via E-mail or Chat, if they both have a microphone and Speaker's, should one be Lonely -- as at times, we all feel --- Lost!!

the home was a residential home in theory but we had residents that needede nursing care. We also were subject to much stricter contro from social services than private homes.

Hi William, I really do hope that our Forum helps to keep you going. I have a partner, but as her health is bad, we don't go out far, only shopping as needed. I play Snooker and carpet Bowls, once each week to get out and Socialise. It helps, very much and gives us, our own space.-- Aches and Pains can get to drive us 'mad' at times, but keeps us going?? -- I find that walking for me is a bit heavy, 'slightly wobbly' since I had Vertigo. But am a 'survivor' ----- well ! we have to be and have a laugh and joke about most things of today!! ---- Must be our coffee and ciggy that does that?? -- Take Care and keep smiling: -- Chatting, Really Does Help!!

Phoenix, you write chatting helps, but you are very seldom in chatroom. As I'm sort of a chatterbox I look from time to time in the chatroom and it's empty .................

Usually I'm preparing my lessons for the next day in the evening and I'm looking from time to time to NYD, but Phoenix I don't succeed in meeting you.
Don't you think it would be a good idea, if all on the forum exchanged together views in the chatroom?

Mine is in my Personal Pages, should anyone want to 'Chat' via. Windows Messenger

Hi Teri, Everybody has Qualities of some sort, so don't put yourself down. -- I had a problem with the chatroom, when I first went in. Do you have Windows Messenger for sending E-mails etc: It is The Easy Way, to Chat or Send E-mails!! -- If you don't have it. Do a Search via your Browser, only if you want to!!
