What about adapting your outgoings to you income? When I divorced I only had little money on hand and at first I was very frustrated, but then I realized that such a lot of things aren't absolutely necessary and my outgoings matched once again my income.

There's a basic fee you have to pay when you want to watch TV, then you have the choice of either using a satellite dish (installation rather expensive I realised) or cable television for which you have to pay an additional monthly fee.  Then there's, of course, also Pay TV.
For years I have had cable TV, then one day my son-in-law had a satellite dish that he did no longer require, however, the costs for installing it very so high that I could have easily watched cable TV for more than 10 years.

One of the problems with us 'oldies' is that we have too much Pride. It is how we was brought up!! - Not to Ask, for anything!! -- It is all very well the government staing that Pensioner's are Not Claiming, what is rightfully their's??  --  Just try and Apply?? You may well do as Eve did, --Told them to 'stuff it ' !!!!
We manage and that is it. Should the government make life worse??  The Car will have to GO!!--Not Complaining!!
 There are many far worse!!

Mac, I hope when you get this free license (that doesn't exist in Germany) you won't spend the whole day watching TV.

Perhaps you have already watched too much TV and you are now more particular (wählerisch) - on German TV they repeat very often well-known series or movies.

No, Mac, it's just for saving costs and to be honest the stories often ressemble each other. Last year we had a lot of series and movies on TV dealing in Africa - when you had sawn one, you didn't need to see the others - the setting and story were, except for some insignificant changes, the same.

Hi Will
this is the new digital tv that is being brought out,we get ours in march.Try checking with the manufacturer to see how you can do it,I only know because on the Titchmarsh show it said digital viewers can turn off the background music by pressing a certain colour button.,I did and it worked !! but I havent seen it since.I think maybe they are getting ready for the big switch over.
