William,
I don't know what has been changed at the PROMS, but perhaps it has been changed to make it more suitable for TV. We have a well-known carneval meeting shown on TV every year. I saw it for the first time when I was about 20 years old and if you compare it with today's version, you wouldn't think it is the same. It has been completely adapted to TV, i.e. instead of many satirics, a lot of dancing girls etc. etc.

Hi Terri, as far as i know a song was dropped from the proms, I do believe if people settle here they should be prepared to accept our laws and cusums as indeed if i settled in Germany I would abide by there laws.

William,
why was this song dropped - was it too British? If we go to the UK we don't expect to find German conditions, but we want to know how the British live, what they think etc. I always very much enjoyed the Proms on German TV, because it showed a picture of the British that was so different from what we read in books. It showed enthusiastic British proud of their country (something we are still partly lacking).

Possibly - "Land of Hope and Glory" -- I don't think it would be 'god save the queen'?? -- The British people used to be a very proud people -- But now that 'pride' has taken a serious downhill slide??

The song was dropped Terri in case it offended other nationalities. Some years back, some councils and do-gooders trieto ban the word christmas, to be replaced by festive season or such like.

But how can a song offend other nations? Everybody knows that the world has considerably changed during the last decades.

they now call them Bury puddings here where I live.
It is called political correctness, as dished out by our nanny state.
Sad thing is we actually do !

At school we learnt a lot of German Christmas songs that have been adopted by other countries and translated, like o come all yee faithful, or silent night,
but we still have others like Oh du fr?hliche, oh du selige Weihnachtszeit, or Oh Tannenbaum, or Kling Gl?ckchen klingelingeling, Vom Himmel hoch etc. etc. etc.
There are such a lot of Christmas songs sung in Germany. The most popular English ones are White Christmas and Jingle Bell.

I miss 'Community Singing' it seemed to draw all people together. I would just love to hear, James Last and his Orchestra, playing and Singing, Christmas carols. Have also seen Him, at London, Leicester and Nottingham, Sadly No More Touring !! I do have a number of his songs etc: on my computer, also some German Service Songs. I enjoy all sorts of songs, more so when I can sing with them??
