Free Lunch?

What do you think are they being scroungers and greedy or is it a sensible option?
No such thing as a free lunch?
Bob and Paul
Freeganism is a lifestyle choice
They eat food they find in bins and are driven by conscience, not financial need. Meet the freegans.
According to the saying there's no such thing as a free lunch, but freegans beg to differ.
They only eat food they can scavenge for free from supermarket dustbins. Most is only just past its sell-by date, some is still within it but the packaging has been damaged.
The freegan philosophy of "ethical eating" is a reaction against a wasteful society and a way of highlighting how supermarkets dump tonnes of food every year that is still edible.

There is far too much food on offer at the supermarkets nowadays,I dont know why they throw it away they could just reduce it.
Good luck to Bob and Paul if its what they want to do,why waste it !
shame on the supermarkets though they should be brought to boot !

This is just one aspect of the drop out community that seems to be popular with some of the population at the moment. I think it often starts with kids dropping out of school. they see that there life is going nowhere and they look at there parents lifetime of work and toil and decide to rebel. the web says that freegan's is two words free and veegan meaning no meat or anything to do with killing animals or animal research . they often don't work and travel around in Caravans calling themselves new age travelers. We get a lot of them in skegness around this time of year, they come here for a free holiday.
They make out that they are friends of the earth but you should see the mess they leave behind. There vehicles are untaxed and un-insured but they police won't do anything about it because they know they will be gone before a case gets to court. they say they have a right to live this way but try telling that to someone who has had them living on there doorstep or someone having to pay for repairs after they have been hit by one of there vehicles.
Can't help wondering though if there was a major catastrophy or a war situation who would be able to cope with the aftermath. lol i'm sounding morbid now , time to shut up .

I wish the supermarkets would distribute to a needy charity, like the homeless. Maybe if the people walking the streets had food in their bellies they could contribute to society more than they do. Personally I think its stealing and if the supermarkets reduced all the edible goods at your own risk and these people actually bought it, then it would reduce the waste.Of course more efficient ordering would also do it.

Trouble with supermarkets is they don't care about the waste they're only target is to be bigger and better than the next supermachain, So its a case of bigger choice for customers, buying in bulk so that they can keep prices low and if that means more waste then so be it.
Tesco is one of the worst, they snap up land around them so that they can stop other competitors moving in on them. We had a new tesco built in Skegness 2 years ago and part of the land they bought contain two semi-detatched houses. they slapped a compulsory perchase order on them and 2 familys moved out. Over 2 years on those houses are still boarded up and I have heard of other towns with the same thing happenning . they have no intention of redeveloping them they just want to keep competition away.

That is disgusting there should be a law against them land grabbing that way. We haven't enough homes as it is without leaving them empty for greed.

Free Lunch
Do you also have in winter a so-called Vesperkirche (church giving lunch free of charge to people in need and homeless people)?
In our town we have such an organization (managed by the church). They will soon open their doors.

Yes!! Volunteer's are those people that are fully prepared, To put Themselves out, without a thought to their Time and cost -- Totally Selfless!
BLESS THEM ALL, AS WITH THOSE INVOLVED WITH CHARITIES!!

Volunteering is not only giving - it's also getting. You don't get any money for your work, that's true, but sometimes you get a smile or you have the impression that you helped and that cheers you up.
At least in Germany there are such a lot of lonely old persons and they would be lost, if there weren't any volunteers or organisations organising meetings, gym, excursions etc. for them.
