This subject seems to have led to a very heated and controversial debate, which should be the purpose of any forum. Members are free to air their views as strongly as they like but without directing personal abuse

Hello Maurice, Thank You for your comment!! I noted you have placed 'Remove' against my posts?? and no other's, so I am obliged to ask Why??--There was quite obviously, No Direct abuse at any one person, either from myself, or Betty. -- We just made a statement of fact, as anybody is allowed to make. just a personal point of view, to which one is entitled to.-- What I most sincerly object to, Is being called a racist, by a member of this forum, for which there should be an apology!! -- There was your Direct Abuse!! -- Should you not be in agreement with this, I am quite prepared to withdraw from this forum.
I have tried to increase the interest, by putting more issues for debates and not all have been answered. I consider as a member, that I have done my best:

Its very unfortunate that this has happened ..clearly someone saw a letter in the paper and not checked on the the use of the abbrieviations before posting it on the forum and someone else has followed up with there reply. I did some research on  the meaning of the of W.A.S.Pbefore I posted my reply ( you get a good refence to it in the Wikkipedia. It originated in America with the new settlers but it was White Anglo Saxon Protestants back then. It was used by Elitist communities to set them selves apart from the native American and Catholic communities it became almost a cult, many Dictionaries quote it has an insult and clearly it has been used in a racist manner. I do think people should check there facts before making posts. If i sounded a bit harsh in my post well I was very much offended by the posts and by making my feelings known i hoped that it would end the discussion before anyone else continued it.
If I decided to walk down the street with a swastika on my arm I would expect to get attacked so in the same way  if you were to use this thread on some forums you would also have been under attack.  Please remember that using abbreviations that set you up has  an elitist and saying this is my country could be just as offensive to some.

Free speech is very good but you must also realise that what you say always has repocussions. this forum is not my forum and its not your forum, It is open to anyone over 50 from anywhere in the world to read, remember this is the World Wide Web so i'ts not too much to expect that we consider other folks feelings when we post here is it.
I really would like to see this forum grow. I want chat and have discussions that will be a benefit to all that are reaching or already in there retirement years but i most certainly don't want to see posts that attack any other groups in the community. Lets have some good debates without having to resort to discussing personal prejudices that could be offensive to others.
It was never my intention to drive anyone from the forum , but if you post this kind of post you must expect someone to have a pop at you.
I hope now we can put this particular post to bed and get on where we left off.

Phoenix I did not put remove against your post and I don't know who did.
Skeggy I can understand that you feel strongly about this matter and you are entitled to express your view  but personal abuse destroys the point that you are trying to make and also creates bad feeling. I agree with you let's draw a  line under the matter.

As house prices are set to increase dramatically in the next few years our children and grandchildren will have even less chance of their own home, even rented accommodation will be scarce. I think its about time we called a halt to the amount of people entering the country now although I fear its already too late.

Hello Val
nice of you to post, thank you for the link, there are many that share your fears.
Houses have alwasy been a good investment, and again this is where the government should use capping of some sort,it should not be allowed for investers to buy to rent at everyones cost, and the other side of the coin is the higher the house prices are the more Tax the government and coucils will get, whether you are dead or alive.!

The real reason for housing increases lies with us in this country. For years now there has been a real decline in new house building, but as soon as new plans are brought out to build affordable housing it is blocked by protest groups worried that it may devalue there property, how selfish is that.

There are many rural communities that can't afford to buy property now because of the trend for buying second holiday homes. what is worse many of these owners of holiday homes don't pay the full council tax on there properties because they only live in them for part of the year. Folks are now in the position where they see there homes has the pension in later life and so there happy to see property prices rise, whilst giving no thought to the next generation.

I saw on the TV this lunch time that they are expecting an average family home to be worth £500,000 in just a few years. but remember what goes up must come down and i fear for many new to the property market very soon because theres no way this increase can be sustained

I knew they were doing the wrong thing when they pulled down all the houses that were "back to back", in the late 60`s and never replaced them,we have less houses here now than ever !
I happened to have one of those that was thought of as "unfit" to live in,how wrong they were, some that are up for sale now are far worse, not to mention smaller and cost a fortune now.
We didnt only lose the houses we lost the community spirit too !

Yes its amazing that there are still some of these prefabs that were built after the war. they have been renovated and some are very confortable, considering they were only supposed to last for a maximum of 7 years its pretty remarkable.

I remember has a child there was a frefab next to my grandmothers house that was built completely of Tin , it looked like a Nissan hut, but it was really cosy inside
