I noticed someone posting about needing help with the piano. Am happy to help if I can. I have several adult pupils and they are wonderfully motivated but very self-critical and self-deprecating. They think they should be able to play Bach Preludes or ABBA's greatest hits hands together with both pedals by the 2nd lesson!!

yes it was me Cath. I am 66 and retired, and have been playing a piano or keyboard for many years. As I posted elsewhere to you, I developed my left hand by the chord method which I learned from Net courses. To some extent I can play many pieces, and it sounds good to me, but I am still trying to improve and make it more interesting. The books say use inversions etc, and I've practiced, but they don't tell you how, and other forums have never answered my questions about this. One that looked good was duane on the Net, but was $147, a bit steep if it does not work for me. I had a good teacher for a year, who accepted that I would never be good at reading left hand sheet music, and taught me a lot through the Technics pop scheme, but he moved away.I play pop, standards, hymns, folk, rock, blues mainly. Any advice welcome please

thanks mac, the desire is there and it is one project at which you can always improve. I took my music books to the Church yesterday, expecting to play my favourites on their old John Broadwood Grand, but they asked me to play a tune as background for a few young children who were doing pre-Sunday school there. I knew the tune, but had to make it up with no music- red and yellow and blue and green, I can sing a rainbow etc., as they played with a multi-coloured parachute thing.I did this in key of C and chords C,F,G which are very common, and they seemed to like it. This was followed with Away in a manger from a hymnbook, that was fine too. Later I played Fly me to the moon, the way we were, amazing grace, he's got the whole world, try a little tenderness, these foolish things, autumn leaves, ain't misbehaving, blowing in the wind, memory, Kumbayah, my foolish heart, sailing, side by side, and scarborough fair. Not too many mistakes, and although they might not agree with my own religious beliefs if they knew, it was good that they will celebrate Christmas as of old, and asked me to do some carols next month. Do you like these songs mac, I sing them at home sometimes as I play, a rubbish voice but it's fun. I did this at a Folk Club a few times until we got the dog.
Today, I had a call asking if I would play background music next Saturday at the Church's book sale. She had been impressed! But no, I've got the dog agility contest that day. Busy life isn't it,lol
