I'm a lifelong non smoker so as you would expect i welcome the ban today...Personally if people smoke thats up to them ...but for years i've had to put up with going into bars and Resteraunts and having to put up with other peoples smoke, I hate seeing full ash trays on tables and in the past if you were foolish enough to asked someone nearby if they would refrain from smoking you were usually told that if you didnt like it you could always go somewhere else... has a none smoker you used to be treated has a second class citizen having to wait for a none smoking table to become available or being sent into a far corner of the resturaunt. So now the tables have turned (I'm trying hard not to gloat lol) I may even take a trip to our local club at lunch time just to savior the moment... On a positive note i hope the ban may help thousands of folk to quit the habit

Hello Skeggy, Smoking/non-smoking is a very debatable issue!! Here as with so many problems of today, people should still have, 'freedom of choice' and not be 'dictated' to as with 'Big Brother!! Taking all into consideration, Smokers, should not be classed as 'Aliens'-- That is My objection, We too belong to The human race!!
I have been smoking for just over 18 years and I shall be 77years young, in a few months. I have never objected to anyone, either smoking or drinking to excess and do not feel I have that right!! -- My partner has 'smoked' for over 50 years and finds  a smoke, relaxing with Her trauma of ill heath, as I find with mine. But The Law, is The law!! What a shame 'They' cannot control more Important Issues, such as Excess Drinking and Criminals!! We all have different views, about so many different problems, that it does not become Easy, to 'Give and Take.  Wonder just what is Next on The listings!!

This is a tough one !
I completely agree with the non smokers..........they should not have to endure other peoples smoke.
I also agree that the smokers pay a lot of tax,and since the habit is not illegal, then pubs clubs etc should provide areas for them to go,they should have their "own areas".
I too wonder what is coming next Phoenix
I fear it is the car especially for the elderly, they may say you cant drive over 70 ? who knows whats up their sleeves.?

I have to say I am looking forward to going to the local pub quiz on Monday and not coming home reaking of stale tobacco and having to leap straight under a shower to rid myself of the smell Angry Even though we sit in non smoking we still have to enter the smokey area to get to the bar and buy drinks and food. Hi Mac, To talk about progress, is not always a good thing!! Do you remeber The Pubs of Yester Year??-- There was a Lounge and a smoke Room. The choice was there for The patrons and there was no complaints!! Now it seems all pubs are 'open planned'- So something just has to go-- Or-- Some people have to be Alienated!! Denying those people, their Freedom of Choice!! Will another TAX be introduced, to recover that Lost from the reduction of people smoking??
Strange!! I have seen No Objections to Excess Drinking or Drug taking, or even Vandalism, early release of jailbirds and being given £200??-- Ther are other more important issue's to contend with! I will wait and see!!
Senior Citizens Cars?? Maybe The Next Target?? A Real Prime one?? This would indeed remove another Popular concern of Eliminating Exhuast Fumes!! Should 'they' go for it?? Better still, Eliminate those Cars that have No Direction Indicators?? And Their Drivers!!= Less Accidents and Less traffic on our Busy Roads?? = Yes !!

we forget the most important point though of this ban ... It is to protect employees from Harmful second hand smoke. I used  to work in bars as a DJ and the 1 thing i hated was the smoke.. I've also worked in factories years ago where everyone smoked in there lunch break it was horrendous, I used to have to stand outside to get away from the smoke (times have changed lol). so the smoking ban must be in all public places where people go. Smoking is a killer its a proven fact i've seen members of my own family suffer from it.
what everyone does in there own house is there business, but please don't make us have to endure it.
I think in years to come folks will be glad of this day. It will help many to kick the Habbit.

Hi Skeggy, No! I do not forget The reason for the smoking ban. It is for The benifit of those who do not smoke, in other words 'passive smoking'-- I am fully aware that smoking is certainly not for eveyone, just like Drinking, Driving, Hospital Cleanliness, Clean Streets, Excess Tax, Killing People Defending their property and their families. I could go on, but what is the point, there are so few people complaining about those problems!! Thank God or The devil, that I never have complained about people smoking, Decades, before I started! Although I totally Agree there should be No Smoking where Food is being Served. I Do Hate some Dictating to other's which is what 'Big Brother' is wanting people to Do!! I forgot!! Must not drop any trash, as 'SPYS' are about as I am sure you know, as well as not Eating in one's car etc: etc: etc: It Is Impossible To Please All The People!!

The Health warning on a packet of Cigarettes will have to be re-written now it seems,

They will need to add don't attempt to ask a smoker to stubb it out you could get shot.

Pleased to say. Nothing like that is on 'our' packets!!
Would be no use asking me, to 'stub' out, as one's foot would accidentally find it's way, Underneath Mine!!

One can most assuredly request?? But most certainly, Not Dictate!! Huh Huh Huh
