Hi all, thanks for the compliment, Phoenix!!! Yes, today is ex Sir Robert Mubabe's big day, a ome person election. That is so African. The sad thing is that nobody on this whole continent will openly speak against him. He gets his supplies from South Africa, and to compemsate South Africa imports!!! The West will never understand how it works on the Dark Continent, but the Chinese do, you give things. It is true, the African greeting is an open hand, held out flat. Johannesburg used to be called the City of Waving Palms!!! China has already established itself big time in Africa, by "giving" things. Well, there are a few strings attached but the ordinary people never get to hear about that. Nothing has changes, in Colonial times it was beads and axes, perhaps a bright shirt or a biycle but the modern equivalents still change hands. What can be done??? NOTHING. It is different here, always will be. Mugabe will win his one man election, declare it the will of the people and then demand foreign food aid to compensate for the state his country is in because of foreign interference. And he will get it. He loves being the centre of attention, Britain, America, theeee UN all talking about him yet they do nothing. America will keep out, no oil here, plus they got a bloody nose in Mogadishu!!! No, life and Sir Bob will go on as ever. There is only one thing will cure him and that is 7.62mm dia, right in that Hitler moustache of his!!!
Jacqui has taken the maid out today for a thank you breakfast, so i am left in peace ... nobody to even tell me to comb my hair!!! Have a good weekend.

There is a seeming paradox with Africa. They love all the benefits that Western ways have brought them they ape us.... or shouldI rather say copy us, and yet they just cannot take on board the levels of self discipline and control that is needed in order to really become part of the western world. Russia had a good go at giving the continent a good coating of their principles and even when Russia crumbled certain African cultures, including here, still cling to the "Comrade" principle, simply because it offers a principle that everyone is equal, thus allowing those at the top to stay where they are. The big conference the "leaders" are holding now offers them all a cghance to declare for or against democrcy, but note how carefully they are wording things. Nobody actually speaks out against Mugabe, they veil what they say behind terms like "apparent" and "seemingly" and the like.
This is probably a big crossroads for the whole continent because make no mistake, they cannot survive without western aid. The problem is how to get it without appearing to be taking sides.

John what you say is very interesting. However, one of my cousins still living in Hungary told me once that not all countries are adapted for copying the "Western model". Each race and continent has its own culture and way of thinking. And what is good for the Americans or English for instance may not be so advantageous for Africans or Asians. Moreover, you cannot put a culture still nearly living in the Middle Age from one day to the other into the 21st century.
A Swiss married to a Massai wrote a very successful book about the time she spent with the Massai and from what I learnt the way of thinking of the Massai is quite different from ours.

William, is this one of the British humour jokes?
?
Mac they come to us because of the money, but in the end they don't change their way of thinking. One of my former collegues is married to a black African - I think he is from Gabun, but I'm not sure - and as far as I learnt from what she told us, his thinking is rather different from ours and in many things she had to adapt.

Yes Teri, it was said in a light hearted manner, I wasnt thinking of any particular country,I was trying to emphasise what other countries do, providing it dosnt affect us,leave them alone and let them get on with it.

A local council has advertised for an air traffic controller job with the option of an application form in Braille. You really couldnt make it up but it gets worse.
The ad also offers candidates who dont speak English an application form in a variety of different languages.Brilliant !!!So we could end up with a blind bloke who doesnt speak English in charge of making sure our planes land and take off safely.
Welcome to Britain, the daftest place on earth.
Come fly with me ?...........er,no thanks.
