There are winners here John, the capitalists, its all their fault I think.
I have just been reading they are increasing the fuel allowance to £250 this year for the pensioners, sadly that still leaves me very short after he took our ten pence tax allowance !
He is also giving the people on child benefits £150 for heating ? and to do this he is borrowing 1 billion,he states it is a one off for them, all I can say is watch this space..........election soon I bet you ! can he really buy voters for £150 one off ?
Shame is too late for you and Jackie to have a family lol

Phoenix, don't you think we also would have been happy if we had got money from the government when our children were born?

Mac, I am inclined to agree!! We did not have the help or Advice -- there was'nt any!!

Teri, No!! We was brought up to be Independant and to accept our own Responcibility, for what we actually did!!
We had to use "Common Sense" to know that we could Afford Children, Before we had them!!  -- Not to use children just to get Housed, as with so very many of Today!!

Yes I tend to agree phoenix,Teri there are far too many hand outs here for idlers in particular.
Dont forget the cost of all this by the tax payer too.
Its not a fair system the workers wont get it and they have kids too !and they arent all on good wages either.

Phoenix, I must contradict you - there may be a few, but - at least in Germany the majority of the young don't want any children at all and if only one child. And today it's easier to take preventive measure than when we were young. I was a so-called "industrial accident" as we call it in Germany - my mother was just 18 years old and my father 20. So as an incentive young people get money in Germany, but the success is really modest. Only our Turks etc. get a lot of children, but they have another mentality. Some years ago I spoke to a young Turkish couple on honeymoon  - I said "children cost a lot of money" they told me "children are a lot of fun"!

Teri,  Contradiction not accepted!!  This is England and young people here, DO have children, simply to get a home without having to WORK!! as we was brought up to do !!
Here, most benifits are just fo the youngsters and those 'entering' this country for handouts!!  -- Certainly NOT for The Senior's and their Welfare!!   Think yet again??

Maybe it's different in the UK. However, you always were better off than we. When I was in England in the sixties young married couples could get small homes at a very attractive price and when the home was too small they could move in a bigger one.

Hi Teri,my first home in the 60s was also small, this was because the mortgage companies would only take the husbands wages into consideration, this changed and we could aford bigger homes for our families. They certainly werent attractive prices though,it took us 25 years to pay off the mortgages.
In the 60s we reeped the benefits our forefathers had fought for,ie: health service flourishing, dentists, housing for the poor, nationalised industries,no capitalists then.
But it didnt last sadly !

In one of our most popular German papers there was a comment on Brown today - it was not at all flattering. Is he so unpopular and does even Blair critisize him?

Our Home buying was in the Wonderful 1950s!! A small start in rented accommodation?? Then!! To buying a small Home in Leicester in 1954, for £1000.  Buying 'upwards' and then 'downsizing' to 'capitalise' on our work strategy!!
To alienate, any mortgages!! -- THEN!! we had our family!!
Yes! Our generation was extremely Lucky -- We really did 'reap the benifits'!!! -- Then what happened??  British Industry, failed to keep up with Incoming Competition and as with progress?? we are still losing our vast services, that was provided for our peoples living benifits?? Still many more Post Offices to close, reducing the assistance to our Senior's Pensions?Huh?
