A kid has been bullied for years by a local gang.
It becomes too much to bear.
He lies in wait for the gang-leader (premeditation) and whacks him with a lump of wood.
The victim dies.

So Monty, you reckon this kid should be hanged ?

Meanwhile, criminals with still receive the minimum sentence and 50% off, for all that Good behaviour, Thanks to the Human Rights and PC Brigade, NOT of Course, for Any of The Victims. They, just Dont get a Mention, let alone any Human Support. -- As with you Dalerite. I really Do know, just What it is like to Lose a family member, and Not by any Illness. I wonder if people would feel differently about capital punishment if prison sentences were harsher?

Lenient sentences, too soft prison regimes and the practice of a convicted prisoner serving only part of a sentence have, I think, all contributed towards the feeling that even if a person commits a crime and is convicted, the punishment will often not be seen as justice for the taking of someone?s life.

Capital punishment comes in several forms ? beheading and stoning amongst them ? and yet, in the countries where capital punishment is still legal, it does not seem to deter offenders.  If it did, countries like Saudi Arabia, Somalia and some American States would be almost crime free.

Some recent cases have also highlighted the different views of what prison is about.  Whilst it is undoubtedly meant as a punishment, all but the most serious of offenders will, sooner rather than later, be released so rehabilitation is also an issue but, of course, if someone close to you is a victim, it is very hard to accept that the attacker not only has life but also the opportunity of rehabilitation leading to freedom.

Very often the choice seems to be seen as soft sentencing or capital punishment but there is the option of longer sentencing including a life sentence meaning life.

" Religion Huh Forgot that Long Ago!!"

An "eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" --
"He that lives by the sword, shall Die by the sword"
That is in The Bible. The Christain Way of Life.

Forgot religion long ago ?  Like ONE day ?   Cheesy

You both must be right - I certainly must be "slipping".

Someone quotes the bible and the "Christian way of life" in defence of their position about capital punishment
but then says
"Religion ? Forgotten that long ago".

Sorry, I still fail to see the relevance of the Chronicles .......
