I certainly would advocate, capital punishment. There is no real deterent for crime and no support for the innocent victims. The prisons are full and criminals are being let out early. Can anyone think of a better deterent
?
Not forgetting that a person should not defend his family and home.

Capital punishment yes if all the boxes have been ticked and theres no doubt whatso ever that the person as commited the crime , with DNA solving so many old murders it seems to be the technolagy to prove the person responsible.
i dont like the idea of hanging though i think there is a much quicker way to do it , a leathal injection seems about right .

I think capita punishment should be brought back, but hanging, to me af iring squad much more humane,3 men with live bullets, 3 men with blanks.

Whichever way a life is taken it is not right, but having said that if you take someones life then you must face the consequences that you will have your life taken. Hanging is the tradition in this Country and should still be on the books.

By deliberation, I did not mention the type of punishment to be carried out. Should a life be taken, then I would certainly advocate hanging as the best deterent. A victim, can be shot, stabbed or even kicked to death, it's still a life taken, unlawfully. As regards to a 'humane' way -- Does the criminal take a 'humane' way, of ending his victims life ?? NO!!

think we all have come up with the same answer on whether to bring it back what we disagree on is the way its done ,
i cannot see it ever being brought back by any goverment, what i strongly believe is when the sentance as been given then no time should be givenoff for good behavior , and while in prison some hard work should be given , life inside is to soft , they get looked after better than some on the outside , also any earnings from work done inside should be given to a victims fund , to help victims in some way ,

the way i look at it,,,,,if a man threatens someone with a gun or what ever,he means to use it,,so just shoot him,job done
moral is dont carry a gun or knife.

Whatever a criminal has done, to treat him inhumenely is to lower oneself down to their level.

An "eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" --
"He that lives by the sword, shall Die by the sword"
That is in The Bible. The Christain Way of Life. ---
The whole idea possibly, is to eliminate the criminals and NOT The Victims. -- What would Your reactions be, IF You lost a family member that way.

Not wishing to get ino a discusion on religion.I point out that it also says in the bible, THE LORD WILL FORGIVE ALL SINNERS AND WELCOME THEM TO THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN.thats far removed from the eye for an eye thing.
the old chestnut about losing a family member always crops up in theCP discussions. When you los a family member either by fair means or foul, it is very traumatic. I lost a son aged 38 through illness and believe me it takes alot of coming to terms with, I still find it difficult to accept.
It didnt turn me to religion but against it.

Well, not really, dear Phoenix.
That was OLD Testament stuff.
There
were
no Christians
when that was written.
Do you also advocate slavery or stoning adulterers or the death penalty for picking up sticks on the Sabbath ?
matthew 5
"
Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
But
I (JESUS) say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.......
Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you ... "

Pumicestone well put, we can find numerous answers to arguements of all kinds within the new Testament, but we are moving away from the question bringing back hanging.
A life sentence for murder should mean life, forever, and they work within that prison to pay a debt to society for their crimes, the victims should come first, their needs and their opinions, these need to be of paramount importance not whether we are taking away a criminals human rights, that murderer didn't think about his victims human rights.
hanging isn't the answer, a murderer should have a constant daily reminder that he or she will never be free, that their crimes mean an end to their freedom.

I wonder if anyone considers that there are degrees of culpability - even with murder ?
And if so, is it reasonable that all those convicted should face precisely the same penalty ?
A hardened criminal committing an armed robbery wilfully shoots people,
A person conspires for months or years to dispose of someone for financial gain - perhaps an estate.
A crim, with premeditation, kills a witness to subvert a trial
A serial predator rapes and tortures and kills a child ....
OR
A hardworking family man comes home unexpectedly and springs his wife in bed with the milkman,
a fight occurs and the wife or the milkman end up dead.
A father tracks down a dealer supplying his teenage son with drugs - in a moment of rage the dealer is killed.
A kid has been bullied for years by a local gang. It becomes too much to bear. He lies in wait for the gang-leader (premeditation) and whacks him with a lump of wood. The victim dies.
All of them have broken the law - murder.
Same (death?) penalty for all ?

a murder of passion is differant than pre meditated,,,and the courts deal with each of those.
so as i see it premeditated should be hanged if the evidence is convinceing.
if a person sets out to murder someone for the sake of takeing a life,he knows the risks, that if hes caught its good bye.
