This is where you can have your say on any topic.

NewTopics:
Just click on the "New Topic" button to start a new discussion.  Others will be able to see what you've written and, perhaps, add their comments.

New Polls:
If you want other people to be able to vote on your topic then use the "New Poll" button instead.  It just adds an extra area where you can give people the option to say, e.g. "I agree" or "I disagree."  It actually allows up to five "voting options," so, if you like, you can encourage a more refined, graduated response such as: I agree, I tend to agree, I'm not sure etc.  There's an example, above, where we invite our members to vote on how user-friendly the site is. (Don't forget to vote)!

Huh Help! I can't find the New Topic or New Poll buttons.
Only logged-in registered members can join or initiate discussions, so you will only see these buttons once you're logged in.

My simple version of how to use this Forum.

I notice that quite a few people come in here for the first time and are right away totally confused by what they see. So, I'll attempt to guide them round.

If you are reading this then you have got past the 'Home' page. I suggest you put up two versions of this site, so that you can read this and follow out the instructions in the other site.

First, go back to the 'Home' page by clicking on 'Forum' in the Menu bar on the left. You will then see at the very top, what is called the site banner. It consists of the title of the site with a picture of a mature couple to the left.

Below and down the left is the 'Menu Bar' with different sections titled 'Main Menu', 'User Menu', 'My Web Pages' and 'Who's On Line'.

Remember; any text that is coloured brown (like this) when clicked takes you to another page.

The rest of the home page consists of the entire Topics' of conversation of members' discussions. You can only post your views in them if you are 'Registered' as a member.

If you scroll down to the very bottom of the 'Home Page' in brown is 'view the most recent posts on the forum'. Click on that and you will then get up the ten last topics of posts.

At the bottom of those ten posts (Page 1) is an option to go to Page 2 which springs 20 posts back and Page 3 which goes 30 posts back, and so on.

You don't need to 'Register' if you only want to have a read, but if you would dearly want to contribute, you can only do that if you become a member by registering to the site.

If you are nervous at writing anything in, then write it first in a word-processor, like Microsoft Word, or Open Office, or you can also use 'Notepad or WordPad' in your accessories menu, or go into 'Google' and from their toolbar go into 'Documents' where there is another free word-processor available to use.

Type out what you want to say, and check the spelling and the grammar, making sure that it makes sense and you've left nothing out. You are ready to transfer it to the window that's used for posting onto the site.

You do this by highlighting all you have typed then while holding down the 'Ctrl' key on the keyboard, pressing the 'C' key. That will copy and hold it in space ready for the next stage.

Go to the window that's used for posting onto the site and click on the top left-hand side. Then while holding down the 'Ctrl' key on the keyboard, press on the 'V' key and then your text is pasted into place.

Any questions?

I have some more tips and hints on things you can do in this site.

Remember that once you've posted your conversation on the Forum, if you're not happy with it for some reason then it's easy to change it. This can be done by going to your posting and clicking on the word 'Modify' above and to right.

This brings up you're text so you can edit it as you want, click 'Save' at the bottom, and it will go back to the topic with the changes.

It is also possible to change the style of the text too! You can use 'Bold' 'Italics' and 'Underline' as I've done in the previous posting. You can also change the colour of the text, too! All these actions are done by high-lighting the text and then clicking on the appropriate word/words you want to change.

These changes make the text more inviting to read, but, don't over-do them, just enough to break a post up.

The Photo Gallery

The New Photo Gallery is a great place to put your favourite snaps, but you have to be registered to use this section - or even to see the menus for it.

You can save all your favourite pictures in it but only if they are in the 'jpeg' format. You can edit your album with text, and your pictures can be edited with text too!
