The time when I reach retirement age is constantly moving. I may still be rushing out to catch the train at 70!

I have always thought that when I retire I shall join clubs and do all the things I haven't got time to do now.  The idea of not having to commute backwards and forwards between home and work and being able to do as much or as little as I wish with my my time is very appealing but, what is the reality of retirement?

Are you enjoying your retirement?  Would you go back to work if you could?  Is there plenty for pensioners to do if they wish - clubs to join etc?  Or is retirement a lonely place?

I think Maegen, you will b like most of us, you will wonder how you found time to go to work. For my part I had a large garden, I did woodwork, I played golf,I was also a member of the darts and domono ream in the local pub, so my life wasw full. All that changed when I lost my wife, I am now well in my80s so not as active as i used to be, but nevertheless i have no problem filling in the time, the worst part being in the evening. My advice is to keep active both mentally and physically.

Yes where did we find time to work??

My time is taken up with my two Children and running my Veterans Association, oh yes and there is the Garden, and the building of a chicken coup, and when I get a spare hour I pop down the Pub!!

When one finally Retires, Health becomes the priority. One  has the choice to take up any sport or hobby thats seems appealing and to meet new friends. Retirement, can be a busy life. There really is so much you can do, You just have to find the time, to fit it all in. ------
Retirement, can only become lonely, when we become disabled and lose our mobility. Perhaps I should have said 'restricted' as we have been for the last two years.
Keep Happy and Healthy and get 'Out and About'. Cool Cool

Thank you all  Smiley Reading how you fill your time, retirement sounds pretty good to me  Grin

Phoenix, are there no clubs or schemes for people with mobility problems?

That is quite a possibilty ?? I have been going to a 'Disabled Gym' for Excersise once a week, but ther are times when it clashes with other appoinments, so it becomes a bit 'hit and miss' - I do home excersises (when I think of them) just to help my leg muscles, but as the nerves in my feet are dead and my balance is very bad. there is no point really. It will get worse. In saying that, both Eve and I make the most of every day and fun and laughter, works well. Grin Grin

I do needle work  Tapistry , and walk a lot also like going bike rides , there is the freedom of doing things when you want , it doesnt have to  fit in with work ..think thats the biggest bonus of being retired , you dont have to clock watch anymore

Hi Tilly, How about some photos: of your Needlework and Tapistry. I have not heard of a woman working on those dying Arts, for what seems decades. It's fastinating!!
Cycling, is also a great idea. We both used to love it, so relaxing and therapeugic, one of the things that made you feel better on returning home, than when going out. Your right about the clock, the more you 'look' the faster the day goes.
