A quick glance at the front pages of the Sunday papers today tells me that I can read why Kerry dumped her boyfriend (Katona I suspect but which boyfriend? who knows? who cares?) or I can catch up on the latest Jordan revelations (are we really bothered?)

It is all dross of course and the "celebrity" concerned no doubt gets a nice cheque.

But what is celebrity?

A Celebrity ?? Female = One that can show too much Flesh and is grossly Overpaid.
Male = one that is grossly Overpaid and has a semi nude female by his side.

We can get absolutely fedup, hearing about them. Divorces, Pregnancies and getting married, for the 3/4/5th, time etc: just who is interested, there are far more important things to publish. No, not more womens fashions ----- Again.

From a practical point of view, I would rather read more, about the ordinary people, in their normal lives. there are just too many magazines that are 'Womens books' and now they are taking over, newspapers. So glad they don't get into the "Best of British" magazine or "Computer Active"  Grin Grin Grin

Was Bobby Moore the first football celeb?  He certainly didn't earn the money footballers earn today but he had a lot of female fans  Smiley

Monty that is what I find so baffling. Just look at the success of magazines like Hello and yet, no one admits to being interested  Huh

I buy Computer Active Phoenix  Smiley

Bobbie Moore, played and enjoyed football, because of the Love of the sport. - Today, it's only about Money. Have you not seem the difference, by watching Rugby Huh?
The "Computer Active" magazine is very enlightening, depending on just how involved you want to be. Enjoy your computer, it plays a large part of your life. Wink Wink

Hi Phoenix  Smiley  I don't watch rugby but you are right, they don't get the megabucks that footballers do.

I am a bit of a computer addict!   Smiley

In Aus, "celebrities" seem to be the main fodder for the womens' magazines.
Women's Weekly, Woman's Day, New Idea etc etc etc - wall to wall articles about models, TV and movie "stars", obscure royalty, even criminals or the wives and girlfriends of crims.

I've heard the old argument "Waddabout you blokes and your Playboy mags ?"
But the womens' rags sell in millions - Playboy sales are miniscule (by comparison). And they actually DO have intelligent articles - not just celebrity piffle.

So Monty is right. Celebrities are celebrities because that is what some people want.
The media create celebrities because in doing so they sell their product.

Bobbie Moore, played and enjoyed football, because of the Love of the sport. -
I saw the first game that the young Barking boy Robert Frederick Chelsea "Bobby" Moore played at the Boleyn way back in 1958.
It was against that team from Manchester who play in red.
He was replacing Malcolm Allison who was struck down with TB.
We all saw he had class even at 17, he was a superb player, later on to captain our club and also England.

He never changed his attitude or demenour and was above all else a gentleman, as indeed were many others of his generation.
He was a celebrity I suppose before it was invented but he never forgot his roots.
Our national squad has never had the luxury of another like him.
Sadly missed Mooro.
