After nearly two years of blood tests other checks and diet Mrs H
had finally got her blood pressure constant and under control with the aid of certain prescription tablets.
I was present when she was told it was vital to take the pills every day or risk undoing all the good work done so far.
Last week she ordered her repeat prescription through the pharmacy attached to our health centre.
Today after almost 7 days the chemist rang up to say they have no tablets and it will be nearly a month before they can get some more.
The GP's surgery have been as helpful as rabies in a blind dogs home.
It seems the extent of their help was a phone call to Boots to see if they have any.
It seems there is nothing we can do unless we buy online @ 55p a pill.
The reason for this Huh The Pharmacies and wholesalers have been selling the stuff outside the UK.

There was supposed to be an emergency debate in Parliament about this ages ago but it seems MP's nefarious doings take precedent.

This is 2010 is it not ? or just a bad dream.

Hi Hammer, Unfortunately, the priority at the moment is still the contention of MPs Expences, although'they' are saying "Sorry" (don't help much). Am totally amazed that the Chemists have Not the blood pressure pills Huh?? ---
Can you get them from another Pharmacy ?? Can they be got from a Hospital ?? Surely there are many more people that require those BP pills, as well as your wife.Huh
Create Hell -- While you chase those Pills.

I've just seen this, so sorry to hear of Mrs. H's suffering because without the pills surely that's is what's happening. Why on earth to the doctors prescribe medication that isn't available, you don't need to know the reasons or rather excuses why this is so, you need an alternative , now, that works and is just as good. What stupid nonsense this is, don't take it from them but why the hell you should have to fight for medication beats me. Health care without the care is totally useless.

Well, it has been a bit strange to say the least.
I was talking to a friend of mine about this issue, he made a few visits to some pharmacies in his local town. My mate knows one or two of the chemists personally and they all told him of the racket that is going on.

Anyway, he located a couple of boxes but at the lower doseage.
To cut a long story short I spoke to our pharmacy and asked for our prescription back as I had found some. Lo and behold the next day Mrs H got a call to say that a months supply was waiting for her to collect. Huh
I will keep you posted on next months issue but have written to our MP to ask him to look into these things.
I am not hoping for an answer mind.

Hi Hammer, Am pleased that your wife, has finally received her tablets. Just goes to show, what a little 'friendly persuasion' can do, or should I say 'a little leaning on' Wink
Amazing how we come to hear of so many 'Scams' around. --
Don't 'hold your breath' expecting to hear from your MP  Roll Eyes If you do, it will all be excuses as to why -----The usual statements. Grin Grin

Thanks Val, yes it is resolved for now but no one will say if the situation will improve,we might be in the same boat next month.
I hope our new man replies as the last one would not, too busy fiddling
adjusting the expense forms I guess.

Don't you have internet pharmacies where you can order the pills in case of needs?
In my country, when pills aren't available you either get a replacement pill or it's available the next day.

Hi Ansu
I could get them from suppliers but not under our National Health Service. The cost was 55p per tablet and we would be by no means certain of the pills authenticity.
The shortage is due to pharmacies and the wholesalers selling the drugs outside the UK. They make vast sums in profit and it seems that no one can do anything about it. that will remain the case until some 'celebrity' with clout has the same problem

You are right, Hammer, pills are much more expensive in my country than in any other European country. The pharma industry has  such a big lobby here, that it's nearly impossible to change it. The health insurances just increase our fees to cover the involved increase in costs.

Its a long way to go for the doctors though. Although must admit when we went to Glasgow when they did the plane runs from Manston It only took an hour from leaving home to getting to the cousins house. Now thats what I call service, sadly it stopped.
