Unions are balloting 20,000 key Network Rail signal staff, maintenance workers and supervisors in a row over jobs and working conditions.

Results are due this Thursday, Friday and next week and are expected to endorse the call by unions the RMT and TSSA for industrial action.

Network Rail say they must make changes to the industry, including axing 1,500 maintenance jobs. They say some working practices are 50 or 60 years old ?and date back to the age of steam?.

NR denied union claims that safety standards were being impaired by the changes. A spokesman said: ?Safety is always at the top of our list both for passengers and staff.?

I think they should, they seem all over the place since they went private, you can't even buy a ticket right through in some cases.

Same old story, choose a holiday period to strike. Some buffoon from the union wil say we have the publics support.
The people on the platform waiting for a train that never comes, will be delighted at the unions action.

Don't always Blame the unions. Network Rail stated they Want to 'Axe' 1500 maintenance jobs Huh = More Accidents ??
If the "Working Plans" are 50/60 years out of date, why don't they do their job and Update those practises Huh
Typical Incompetence and mismanagement again. -- Going for more profits HuhHuh? Do you really expect the management to actually progress ?? The basic idea, is IF you look after your Workers, you will have a good company working !!
