THREE Labour MPs and a Tory peer have today been charged for their roles in the grubby expenses scandal that plunged Westminster into disarray.

MPs Elliot Morley, David Chaytor, Jim Devine and Lord Hanningfield - whose alleged dishonesty saw them claim thousands of pounds of taxpayers' cash - will all face charges under the Theft Act.

It means, if found guilty, they could face up to seven years in jail.

But as the Director of Public Prosecution Keir Starmer announced his decision to prosecute live on television, one of the shamed four expressed his amazement at the charges.Jim Devine, MP for Livingston, said he was "astonished and devastated" to have been charged over allegations he claimed second home expenses totalling ?14,428 from the public purse.

How can they be so stupid as not to know they were being dishonest, they still think what they did was okay, they can't even see it was morally wrong even if the rules allowed it, no conscience, just pure greed.

The question, was put and their answer was  NO?Huh?
MPs. quite obviously have no morals. Quite aside from the fact, 'They' stole from us, their own people that Placed them in office. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes-- Sure, some have paid back 'some' money, that in itself, is an admmission of Guilt. But, 'they' are still going to contest the charges HuhHuh
Are the 'Bookies' taking any bets, of 'their' getting off.??

Apparently, it was a BNP candidate, that first brought those charges about(4). Plus there are 23 more to come. The outcome ?? guess we all feel they?? will get off, but have no fear, 'They' have Apologised. LOL!!

Well said Cath, I wish they could be tried for being morally wrong, they'd have to empty the prisons to hold them all.

Only takes one rotten apple in a barrel, to 'rot' the rest.
All three main parties have been Guilty, both Legally and Morally. But then again, 'they' have no moralls. Angry Angry
lets see just how easily, 'they' will be Let Off and all is hushed up = Normal. Huh Huh

One of the accused is from near here.
I really hope they get to court and justice is not only done but seen to be done.
I think perhaps this whole expenses debacle will take a while to vanish from the Radar.
It was said in the early days to be just a handful of dubious claims but now it is over half of the trough slurpers that have been caught out and that is just the ones caught.
I doubt if many will ever have any trust in MP's, Government or the law again and that is not being grumpy for the sake of it.
They need putting in parliament and microwaving for at least an hour. Roll Eyes
