Alan Titchmarsh has signed a deal to front a new gardening series on BBC Two, the corporation has confirmed.

The presenter will visit some of the UK's "most spectacular showpiece" outdoor spaces in the new programme Alan's Garden Secrets. Titchmarsh, who previously presented Gardeners' World, said he was "delighted with the move", promising to pass on tips to viewers "so they can create some of the same magic in their own gardens".

Groan I really don't like him, he's so smug.

I stopped watching any gardening programme on the BBC a long time ago.
I tried to tolerate Toby Buckland and his silly patronizing friends on gardeners World but gave up.
The dumbing down turned the programme infantile.

I agree with you Val about AT but then I don't like any of the others either.
I read somewhere that Monty Don was also being given a holiday series on Italian Gardens, relevant to England I suppose.

I thought with all the talk of going back to basics we would get an old style relevant type programme but apparently not.
Long and sorely missed Geoff Hamilton would rotate in his box if he could see what the present lot have done.

They would be better off re-running his entire stint at GW but pigs might fly then pork would go up. Angry

There is just Nothing like the old series. This 'new stuff' just does not do anything for us.

Geoff is still sorely missed and I gave up watching GW too. I thought Toby Buckland might turn it around but sadly no. I think what does it for me is that its not a real garden, just a field they're planting up with no real purpose. Also too we never get any real information about any of the plants, alternatives for different soils etc. I wish it was more about plants and less about presenters.

It does take away the real pleasure and interest.
