I carnt see how clearing Afganistan and Pakistan  of terroist   is our patriotic duty, arnt they just going to set up somewhere else .The powers in this country couldnt stop terroism on britains street so how can they do it on the talibans home ground .
reading some reports , our troops are supose to be out there to help afgans get a democratic  rule, by TRAINING their troups and police to fight against them .
, well if that was the case , we shouldnt have dead soldiers coming home .
I do beleive though  when a soldier signs up they should be aware that  they are sometimes  sent on a no win mission where their lives are on the line .

This isnt like the falklands where land was invaded, our forces went out did a good job  and gained the country back, with the loss of lives ,that was expected.

Tilly that was a great post, thank you. Ther are many reasons that our Trops are in Afganistan as you pointed them out, but one of the major ones (they say) is to help reduce the amount of drugs being exported onto our streets from Afganistan. I would love to see the reports on any reduction cause I cant see any in the local area.

No i carnt see any less dealing either chris , theres one dealer in our village , and its even gone on outside my  house.
I have also read reports that its another reason for our troops being there , well i hope not cause  i would hate to think our young soldiers are getting killed for something like drugs . Yes drugs are bad But not a threat to our country .This is a topic on another forum im on and i have agreed with another poster that this could finish up like ireland ,
All we can hope is no more young lives get lost ,

A Soldier only does and fulfills the wishes of the Government nothing more and nothing less Tilly. I and many others carry those scars. Some are not so lucky and come home in body bags. Angry

War is War!! But is this problem out in those countries, a war against our homeland and it's people. Many believe Not???  They should all be brought back, but have you noted, that No One even mentions that, only that more helicopters are wanted ??  So?? Do our troops really have all that they require ?? The big boys say yes, does that include ---- Body bags, as many more will be required, before too long. ----   I Vote -- BRING THEM ALL BACK. !!!!

Was that a recent one Phoenix? i remember watching edward and mrs simpson,
in the news  i did read theres not enough troup carrying helicopters and this is why so many are getting killed, having to travel by vehciles  over land mines .
and it also stated there will be a  fall in helicopters in use in a few years time .

It really is all political, to hide the truth from The people. I love these Documentaries, that come out later. There is probably more truth after the 50/60/70 etc: years. Much more to 'come out' no doubt Huh?

Everytime!!  Where there is Smoke, there is Fire. There must be  a lot of 'Hidden Secrets' yet to come out, that may well affect, People still Living ?? Do you ever 'wonder' just what will arise after the 100 year period??  Too Far Forward?? Ok!! The 70/80/ 90 period ??
many will have died of course.

Just a few numbers regarding troops in Afghanistan. Total number of men 65,000, from 42 countries. Two main players US 30,000, UK 9000. Dispite what our Defence Secretary and others tell us, we are not doing very well.
In the 20C Russia -which was rather good at pacifying people - had 130,000 men in Afghanistan and gave up and went home. So we can double our troops and still continue not doing very well.
With respect to the poppy fields. Has anybody come up with something for the farmers to grow if all the poppies are destroyed? The first requirement is stability in the country of course and it won't happen.
