Where do people get cheap books? I find Oxfam good. I like Amazon as well. I've just bought Amy Tan's 'Saving Fish from Drowning' from Amazon for 65pence. Sometimes you can get books for 1p. The postage costs a bit, but it's still cheap.

We buy our Books from either the medical centre, os Age Concern. Came out with 8 books today, so we both have lots of books yet to read.

If you know your stuff you can sometimes pick up some valuable books at these places. I have a second edition of Decline and Fall I bought in a jumble sale for hardly anything at all.
It's always worth checking for modern first editions as well.

One of my most interesting books is "Guernsey under German Rule" by Ralph Durand, printed in August 1946 -- The first edition printed in June 1946. Unfortunatly Ralph Durand, died on December 22nd. 1945. due to malnutrition, before his book was published. Inside my book, is a receipt for 5 shillings and 5 pence for a charm from a jewelers, with 2 3d stamps stuck on.

That's very interesting. I've never found much in books apart from pressed flowers. I do have a first edition of 'Orlando' with press reviews in it that came out in 1928.
On the cheap book front -  Caffe Nero in Cambridge has a shelf of books people can borrow  and where they can donate books. I donated the first six volumes of 'A Dance to the Music of Time'. Two weeks later my wife came home with six volumes of 'A Dance to the Music of Time' and said she was going to read them and wasn't it amazing luck she found free copies in Caffe Nero.

Yes, she knows I have been reading them. I think that's why she picked them up - to check them out herself.

Peter, Possibly because you were 'chuckling' so much whilst reading, that your wife decided to have a 'check' for herself, Er?  to see if the laughter became 'contagious' maybe. Lots of Lol!  Lol!!
