My green house goes up this weekend and I've had some tomato plants donated to get me going but what do I plant them in pots or grow bags, which is best?
Come on you lot I need a hand as I've not used a greenhouse before.

Yep!! Tubs or buckets would be fine. Don't forget they need support (staking) as they become 'Top Heavy' ??
Watering not a problem, as you will get the Pleasure, of watching them Grow. Just don't let them 'dry out'---
Bet you soon get -- Addicted!!

Hi Pauline, glad to see you are puttingyour greenhouse to good use.Having grown tomatoes for 50years may I offer some suggestions which might help you.
Firstly I believe gro bags are the best because they keep the moisture in better. Grow them down the middle of the greenhouse, they need a good air supply. I put a long cane running leghnthewise resting on te strutts at the top of the greenhouse. When planted in the bags and begin ti grow they will need support,I ties some strong string (very very loosely) at the bottom of the plants and tied the other end to the cane or wood at the top of the greenhouse. as they grow wind them round the string.it needs strong string NOT nylon. The trusses will grow from the stem, u will recognise them because they will have small flower buds on them. BUT shoots will appear growing where the leaves meet the stem, these must be removed otherwise they will grow into rogue trusses and spoil the plants. Watering, try and water regularly, if you miss for some reason DONT give them twice as much next time build up slowly. The scourge of tomato plants is white fly,o this end I grew a dozen or so French Marigolds and put them amongst the tom plant, with some either side of the door.I was never troubled with them. Well Pauline if there is anything else you want to just ask, and I will try my best to help. o doubt other posters will other ideas, so you pays yor money and akes your choice.

I have been busy in my green house ,I have got tomato's, bell peppers, hot chillies and cuccumbers on the go. I think I will just keep it to that for this year till I see how I get on, oh I forgot about lettuce and spinache

Hi Pauline, you have got of to good stsrt with your greenhouse. A word of caution if I may, I have found, that tomatoes dont grow well if grown in the same greenhouse as cucumbers. It would be interesting if other people have experienced this.

Hi William I was talking to a gardener who said the same but he also said that if I put the tomatoes on the side of the greenhouse that gets the most sun and the cucumbers on the opposite side  they may be OK, I'll give it a try any way .

HI all
Just thought I'd give you an update on the greenhouse the tomato's are fine there are so many I can't count, I have cucumbers coming on very nicely, the courgettes are doing well so are the peppers and chilli's.
Outside the runner beans and lettuces in pots along with the herbs are thriving (I dont have a vegetable plot).
So I guess you could say that the addiction is coming along well. Grin Grin Grin
