Lucky you - in Germany it's icy and they predicted that it will still get colder in the next few days. So all suppliers of oil and gas may expect a good business! However,  maybe we will get some problems, as much of our gas is supplied by Russia and as they told in our yesterday's news a smaller amount of gas is arriving at its final destination - where is the missing amount? Nobody knows lol.

Teri...you have answered so many questions with the statement that Russia supplies your Gas! They have got the European Union by the short and curlies, and they can control the very heat that you need in your house. At least we have still got the independence of trading with other Countries.

Self Conservation!!   He who has, is The master of all:

Yes in the 70's it was Germany that held the financial power, the DM was awesome, world banks were trembling at is power. I believe it was the Dutch that done something to bring the DM down a peg or two, everyone was frightened that Germany was getting too powerful again. (Sorry Teri it is the truth). Then of course everyone decided to calm  down and sort of get on an even keel again, then 89 the Belin Wall came down, Germany was in trouble, a big sigh of relief went around the financial circles.

Teri you will like this one: Germany lost everything after the last war, even its brains were extracted and exported to America, okay they landed a man on the Moon (USA) or did they??? Without the knowledge of the extracted German Scientists and inventors Germany would have done that in the mid 50's. The world owes Germany post war so much, but it is not allowed to be said.

Chris that's right - the fall of the wall wasn't really a bargain for western Germany, on the contrary everybody has still to pay a "solidarity fee" every month to support Eastern Germany. However, in our yesterday's paper there were a lot of comments on Eastern and Western Germany and they said that the advantage of the financial crisis for Germany is that the two countries got closer and that the differences in views are no longer as big as before.
But they also wrote that the EU is a much "harder" and "better" currency than the DM ever was and if you look at the rates of exchange there seems to be some truth in this statement.

Yes Teri I can understand that the German people think that the Euro is a harder currency than th DM was. That is because many nations now have the Euro as such. But when Germany had the DM it was a very powerful currency in its own right.

I have many friends that live in Germany and about a years ago it was said that Germany had become dissilusioned with the Euro and they were thinking of pulling out of the Euro and having the DM back.

Chris that's right not every German loves the Euro, because there's no denying it's a TEURO (expensive one), but there's no way back to the DM. Our problem was, is and will sstill be for many many years the costs involved for "building up" Eastern Germany. Since the fall of the wall I have been several times in Eastern Germany and there's still a lot of money required to transform it in a country of the 21st century. Much has been done, but not enough - there are still too few jobs and thus too many "dissatisfied" people.
