I believe that we would agree and say -- No!!
Bearing in mind that both parents need to be at work, to keep a good income for their standard of living. Yes!! it is a shame and that is where the disapline, goes out of the window. The days of close families seem to have gone and the young children are 'let off their lead' to look after themselves. You know it is easy to pickup bad habits, so the children do not get corrected.

Some are, some arent,it is also the quality of the time spent with the child too.
Some cater for the children ie nannies and nurseries, others dont. The ones that dont work seem to have the worse behaved children.

Mac you are right. Even if both parents are working they still can have enough time for their children - it's a question of organisation and of how important their children are for them. If the mother isn't working and is frustrated or has other interests, it's not said that she will have enough time for her children.
I've been giving private lessons now for nearly twenty years and some mothers who weren't working were really a disadvantage for their child, because they pampmered their child, prevented it from taking over responsabilities and getting grown up.

Both my daughters and one of my granddaughters work ,I'm happy to help out with childminding (most of the time)my grandchildren and my great-grandson are happy well-adjusted
young people. But I do agree that today both parents work to improve their standard of living, they dont wait for things like new furniture and holidays abroad etc like we did.

You have hit the nail on the head there Pauline, if we wanted anything we saved up to buy it. Not today, they want fitted carpets, dishwashers, fridges, washing machines, a car or maybe two in the drive, central heating, etc.if we got a cake for tea on a Sunday, it was like dining out at the ritz. lol

Hi Smiler, Sadly, a great olde friend, has passed on. Known as the 3d. and 6d. store and dying at the good old age of 99 years. So many 'quality' buildings and people have passed on, that will be missed so much and cannot be replaced. Thankfully, I look backwards 'as it was' not forwards as it is. It's good to remonice:

CAN ANYONE REMEMBER WHEN YOU WENT TO SEE SANTA IN WOOLWORTHS, THE GIRLS GOT A PINK PARCEL AND THE BOYS A BLUE ONE (NO DOUBT COSTING 6D), INSIDE A SUGAR PIG, CHOCOLATE PENNIES,CRAYONS AND BOOK AND MAYBE A SMALL TOY CAR. CANT SAY WHAT WAS IN THE GIRLS. BUT DIDNT WE HAVE FUN WITH THEM.
