Is there an object that you love?? if so, why? because its appearance? because it's really practical?

As product designer I'd love to know!!

Hello Betina,
you ask us if we like an object and why. Designers often ask too much from senior citizens with their new creations. My mother is 83 years old and the so-called motor activity and her eyes can no longer be compared with those of young persons. She requires products that are easy to handle, have big keys and big numbers on them. Or look at our cars, many senior citizens don't dare to buy a new car, because new cars are full of modern electronic. Certainly old people could also work with modern equipment, but they need a longer time and they would require someone having a lot of time and patience to show them one time, two times or more how it fuctions and where they have to press.
In Germany, where I live, they make researches and designers are put in heavy suits when they design a new product to adapt them to the conditions under which old people live and I somewhere read that they realised that many products they have designed cannot be used by senior citizens because they are either too heavy or too complicated.

I bought a toaster that I loved the look of, it was pink fifties look but it was useless, it only toasted half the bread, only me and my daughter used it without moaning  Grin because we loved the look of it, I was secretly very glad when it packed up. Cheesy Most of the objects ...well all of the objects I have have to be practical but if they look good too thats a bonus. My most used daily object is the splatter lids for the microwave they are also used as covers from flies etc.

i visit a lady who has a job to open these pull rings on the top of cans...i myself am often defeated by them too.
i result to using an old wartime N.A.F.F.I spoon to put
the handle...through the ring and pull.
one of the best ways of opening ordinary cans...is the
new battery operated can opener...you place it on the top
of the can...press a button...and hey!presto it runs round the can...all by its self...all you have to do is take the magnitised lid off...price about ?13-99...worth it thou !

I would to lost, to say the least. Millions of websites to explore, chats to Friends, using 'Skype' forums about most popular subjects. Brings the world, into one's own Home!!

I bought a small bject in Holland which I wouldnt want to be without, why? I dont know, because all it does is puncture a hole in the round part of an egg before you boil it,it prevents the white of the egg, from oozing out when boiling.

I love all my mod cons but can you imagine cutting the grass without a lawn mower? It must've been a nightmare with the scythe.
