Title: can you believe it? Post by: betty on February 29, 2008, 04:32:34 PM I posted this topic on another forum today and I wondered what your thoughts are. Daughter had to collect my grand daughter Claire from school today. She apparently when Jane got to school it appears most of the class were sent home. The reason beingthat Claire was due to have a science lesson, they entered the laboratory to find some young s*d had turned on all the gas taps!! Good job no one clicked on a light switch!
The consensus of opinion was that either the room should be locked between lessons or that the teacher from the previous class should have checked when her pupils had left the room. What do you think? Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: Phoenix on February 29, 2008, 04:54:28 PM Hi Betty, The problem of Today, is just where does one's Responcibility begin/ends??? The safety factor arises here, Is it The teacher's job to check ALL is safe for the next class ?? Could anyone smell gas ?? -- In reading so much about childrens 'misbehaviour' in school ?? Then maybe ?? a little 'commonsence' should have been called for ?? -- Gas, being so 'lethal' would only have taken a few moments of the Teacher's Time ---- The school and Lives, could well have been Lost -- Just because of "Lack of Thought" and a few Seconds of Time ??
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: mac on May 02, 2008, 10:44:19 PM I have just watched the News at Ten and can you believe it they are all waiting for the outcome of the lord mayor of london vote, well up north who the hell cares ? unless you travel to london and have to pay the charges to go into london that the present mayor has sanctioned, probably to finance some other project like second homes or travel etc.
I turned it off i had had enough lol Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: william on May 03, 2008, 08:54:02 AM Hear. hear Mac. after voting for red Ken these last few years, they deserve all they get.
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: Phoenix on May 04, 2008, 09:19:13 PM Too True!! I can't be 'bothered' to watch it either:
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: mac on May 07, 2008, 04:13:36 PM And more besides after the chaos in london with the trains and transport probs.
Oh and do we really need a Lord Mayors parade ? Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: Phoenix on May 11, 2008, 12:57:17 PM Wonder why there is so much 'chaos'?? Seems to be a 'normality' of todays way of life --- As though we can't do without it all -- can't see how it helps people??
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: ansu on May 12, 2008, 07:06:34 AM Phoenix, it's brain training - keeps you young!
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: Phoenix on May 14, 2008, 08:24:31 PM I have no desire to re-train my Brain?? Having all that I require, why should I want to 'Progress' ?? into Today's society ::) ::) ::)
I am already a "young at heart - silver surfer" ;D ;D ;D Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: ansu on May 14, 2008, 08:26:52 PM Phoenix, thank you. I just forgot, sorry.
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: Phoenix on May 14, 2008, 08:44:25 PM Hi Teri, No need to say sorry!! --- I truelly am a Silver Surfer!! -- Soon I shall have little else -- A Computer is a life - line for so very many senior's -- Perhaps some do not like Forums. Our new comer's don't seem to like Postings??????
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: ansu on May 14, 2008, 08:48:41 PM Some told me it's too complicated and to be honest at the beginning I also had problems. Being a silver surfer is no shame, on the contrary! German silver curls are rather lazy regarding the computer.
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: mac on May 14, 2008, 08:50:58 PM Shame Teri they miss so much !
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: ansu on May 14, 2008, 08:59:00 PM true, Mac
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: Phoenix on May 14, 2008, 09:02:14 PM What Did We Do?? Before We Bought a Computer ?????
How did we learn to actually Use a Computer?? We all found it quite hard!! But?? We did get there!! Look at just how much Enjoyment we receive from being on-line??? As for trying a Forum?? Wow!! What problems we had in 'sorting ' it out (all fingers and thumbs) ?? Was'nt it FUN ;D ;D ;D But we got there in the end!! But even in saying that?? There is No Limit -- We can Enjoy THE WORLD!! Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: mac on May 14, 2008, 09:05:55 PM Thats true Phoenix but I would rather have a life, and feel free to go about what I did before,I dont go out now at night, for obvious reasons,so I use the Pc sad init ?
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: Phoenix on May 14, 2008, 09:11:21 PM Hello Mac, Sorry to say, we too feel it's safer at home!!
Some of our friends, indeed feel the same. It really makes one be 'ashamed' of today's so called standards?? To say the least --- I AM!! -- But it is very sad for us to admit that!!--- Hurray For Our P.Cs. Hip! Hip! ;D ;D ;D Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: ansu on May 15, 2008, 12:31:44 PM I must admit without a car I wouldn't go out in our town at night. I don't know whether it's as dangerous as I think, but one of my neighbours told me that it doesn't matter whether you are a male or a female, if someone urgently needs money, he will attack you and nobody will help you. Civil courage is a Fremdwort" (foreign word).
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: Phoenix on May 15, 2008, 03:23:25 PM Hi Teri, Better to be 'safe' than sorry!!-- You would be on your own and nobody to help you, in case of being hurt??
Be Safe and be Happy and Healthy!! -- Everything else is ----- 'secondary'?? Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: william on May 15, 2008, 05:31:40 PM In England we have the ludicrous situation, that if I went to help someone and I hurt them, I would be the one to be prosecuted, the yobs would get off scot free.
Until this situation is changed, things will only get worse. Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: Phoenix on May 16, 2008, 02:16:14 PM Hi William, What a situation?? Whosoever thought this one up,should be "Hung, Drawn and Quatered" -- How 'silly' of ME ?? -- I know full well The person would receive a Medal and a Raise in salary!! -- So very many Times, The Innocent Person, Gets Killed!! The 'Thugs' vanished??
How life has changed, is shown by The Thugs, at the football match?? -- Attacking a Policeman, with His back turned Away -- A Whole Pack Of Thugs!! I suppose 'Drink' will be Blammed Again!!-- Was Glad to see The pictures of football, Decades Ago = No Problems!!-- Young Adults of Quality?? Yes?? --- Those Young Adults, are The Senior Citizens of TODAY!! Don't 'knock them!! ??? ??? ??? Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: mac on May 16, 2008, 10:40:02 PM But you know of the hundred and 40 odd thousand that came to manchester,it was but a handful of mindless thugs who spoilt it for everyone,I listened to the local radio which is manchester radio, and everyone was having a good time, the litter left was because there were no bins and the urine was because there were toilets ! all to save money ?
I was appauled at the news footage on tv,this was at the night time and after a whole day of drinking by some not all,and who made the profits ? the supermarkets had the beer on the pavements ready for sale can this be right ? I even know how much it cost £16 a crate ? So why didnt they have it in Scotland ? since we the tax payers of england pay the scottish government a percentage of our rates/poll tax/community charge. Sick of this country and its greed. Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: Phoenix on May 17, 2008, 08:04:43 PM Mac, Thank you for this 'enlightenment' -- Do The Press?? ever give the public, The Whole Truth?? -We only saw the 'rubbish' ::) ::) and Nothing else?? Why did the press not state there was, No Toilets and No Waste Bins ???
If a 'story' needs telling?? Tell everything!! Britain it 'appears' is still a 'Rip Off Country' ::) ::) Leaves some Laughing!! and some Crying ??????? Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: mac on May 17, 2008, 10:44:53 PM It does phoenix
I listened to the radio that morning and all was really going well,in fact most of the day too and night, but when they got drunk the riot police went in and that was it ! Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: Phoenix on May 19, 2008, 02:28:33 PM Does that mean The Supporters (ahem) was Not the problem??
T'was The Drink, that did it ::) ::) ----- Ah! So! Too much 'Caffeine' from Coffee ??? ??? Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: mac on May 19, 2008, 04:18:31 PM I think it was a few people looking for trouble the majority were well behaved.

Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: mac on May 22, 2008, 05:39:58 PM Oh Teri they were real dirty players love !!! always fouling and assaulting the other players !
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: ansu on May 22, 2008, 06:14:19 PM That's not really what I would call a fair game.
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: Phoenix on May 22, 2008, 08:41:50 PM I don't even call 'football' a Man's game!!
We much prefer 'Rugby' for Real Men!! Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: ansu on May 22, 2008, 09:31:32 PM Rugby is not at all popular in Germany. It's much too rough!
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: mac on May 23, 2008, 03:10:16 PM Oooops not getting into that one lol ;D ;D
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: Phoenix on May 23, 2008, 07:56:07 PM Like I said!! -- Just for Eve and ME!! We do Not like football!! We Both Much Prefer -- RUGBY!! and Consider The GAME ?? For Real Men! Of course it is a Rough Game, that is Why?? It Is A Man's Game. --It is Still called SPORT!!

What do you think? Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: ansu on May 30, 2008, 08:37:18 PM As far as I know in Germany labatories are locked after the lessons by the teacher. As you say, it's much too dangerous if pupils are allowed to stay there without any supervision.
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: Phoenix on June 02, 2008, 12:49:09 PM Quite Simple Really !! --- Just have to find the right type of person, that is 'capable' of accepting Responcibility -- Without expecting a rise in pay?? --
Yes!! I do know that is a physical Impossibility ::) ::) Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: william on June 02, 2008, 08:31:49 PM I am afraid teri, its a general malaise that is sweeping the western world, nobody wants resposibility, couldnt care less outlook, live for today, and who can blame them, in this uncertain world.
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: Phoenix on June 03, 2008, 01:44:49 PM Does 'This' apply to Everbody ?? Now one can understand, just why, This Country is in such a Mess ::) ::) ::)
I am soooo very Glad, that I am not like that!! I still prefer to believe there really are some Good people out there ------- Somewhere??? Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: mac on June 06, 2008, 07:55:24 PM How is Mgabi getting away with so much in Zimbabwi ?
he comes across as another Idi Amin. Or is it all press talk ? Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: John Ingram on June 09, 2008, 09:02:15 AM Mugabe "gets away with it" because it i s the "African Way" ... he who has the longest spear is the boss. Everyone loves a winner so all the thugs and bullies gather around and protect him. If they didn't they would feel the length of the spear. Grace Mugabe is welcomed all over the world ecause she has money to spend.
Zimbabwe prevails only because they are supplied from South Africa and they pay less for fuel and electricity than the South Africans do. In order to provide the electricity South Africa buys it from Mocambique!!! Mugabe is the same as all the other African "leaders", he doesn't want foreign interference, just foreign money. It is the African Way. Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: mac on June 09, 2008, 08:20:39 PM Hi John
Then its time for change long over due change. I am so far enjoying my jolly hols and even the sun is out ................well for now lol Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: william on June 10, 2008, 08:19:18 AM Good for you Mac, dont forget mi stick o rock
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: John Ingram on June 10, 2008, 02:24:29 PM mac only said it was Essex. Don't tell us you went to Sarfend!!!
That is the tragic thing about Africa, it will never change. They want all the trappings of the modern world with none of the responsibilities. They are very quick to blame everything on the "legacies of Colonialism" but if you ask which culture or government style they admire the most then they cannot tell you. There is no sense of quality, of lasting beauty or heritage. Things are built only to fall down or decay. I love Europe and look forward to seeing more. I loved Berlin, such atmosphere, such history. Yet modern youth probably sees no beauty at all. Know what I loved the most about Berlin??? After then 22 years in Africa I loved kicking up rotting leaves in the Tiergarten and touching old buildings. Feeling the damp and age of things. London is the same, there is something constant about Europe which you will not see in Africa. If the people here had the mentality that admires things of value it would be a different place but they do not. I think when you are from Europe you left your footprints on the ground and will always go back one day, because it is where your heart is. Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: mac on June 12, 2008, 06:10:10 AM Hiya folks

Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: mac on June 12, 2008, 07:47:12 PM John
Are they 3 wheelers ? and will you both be safe on them ? True to form it rained today lol Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: John Ingram on June 13, 2008, 10:41:00 AM Yes, mac. Three wheelers with two wheels at the front and the box. There is another type with the single wheel at the back but they don't have those. Although the box at the front is slightly less elegantit is easier to convert because the chain mechanism is standard and there is room to get the motor on. Should be plenty of room for batteries and the shopping box too although to begin with I will jusrun it from batteries in the box.
Once again we didn't see them as the owner was out and she has the keys to the store. But there is no hurry. It is something to look forward to!!! I see Tvangerai got arrested twice yesterday in Zim.... can you imagine Cameron being jailed twice when the Election is due??? Only in Africa... such things really do not seem strange anymore, they really don't. No Eastenders tonight, what will we do?? Have a nice weekend all. Oh yes, doesn't anyone evr go in the Chatroom? IT would be nice to go "live" sometimes. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee J+J Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: mac on June 14, 2008, 11:32:00 AM William and Teri go in chat at night, and sometimes me when I am at home.
Hey those trikes sound ok wonder if they would take the traffic off the roads here lol I doubt it its always raining. Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: ansu on June 14, 2008, 12:06:18 PM John, you ask whether no one is in the chatroom - I tried several times to chat with you when you were online, i.e. I entered in the chatroom, but you didn't join me, so I thought you weren't interested in a chat - soory, this seems to be a misunderstanding. Maybe next time I'll have more luck!!!!!
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: John Ingram on June 14, 2008, 12:13:24 PM OK. What I will do in future is wehen I come on I'll go chat anyway. Like now!!! I don't always look!!
Byeeeeee J+J Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: mac on June 18, 2008, 11:08:05 AM Heres a good one
Our senior MPs have demanded a 21% pay rise, this will take their salaries to £75,000. IMMORAL !!!!! SICK !!! GREEDY !!! and certainly not justified !!! Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: Phoenix on June 18, 2008, 08:47:06 PM BLESS'EM ALL!! BLESS'EM ALL!!
That really must show just how much the MPs. care about their own people !! They Do Not!! Now WE are being told the Services Costs, will be Increasing by 40% before the end of the year!! Is that not good of 'them'???? Down goes our Purchasing Power, from our Pensions, yet again!! Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: william on August 11, 2008, 05:20:26 PM Went to the local supermaket for potatoes saturday. There was some new ones, grown half a mile from me, they needed washing and scraping, they were delicious. While iwas picking them out, the number of people came and picked up these baby potatoes washed and in plastic bags. Are people too busy to wash and scrape a few potatoes, supporting the local farmer at the same time.
A farmer on the local radio this morning, said, thet used to throw very small potatoes away, now they are big business. Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: mac on August 11, 2008, 07:41:11 PM William i think they taste better with the soil on them !
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: Phoenix on August 11, 2008, 08:32:27 PM NO!! people are not TOO Busy!! Just Lazy -- That Is progress!! -- Wonder what 'they' do with the time they have Saved ?? --- Small Potatoes ??? what we used to call 'pig potatoes' only good to feed the pigs on ?? Now Nothing gets 'thrown away' it ALL makes someone MONEY!!
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: ansu on August 12, 2008, 03:42:31 PM Ah, that reminds me - in Wales we often got small boiled potatoes with the peel (Schale) and people ate them as they were. In Germany we remove the peel before we eat them. The first evening I removed it, but it was a laborious work, the next times I ate them as they were, but it tasted a bit strange.
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: mac on August 12, 2008, 05:01:02 PM Teri, the Irish cook all their potatoes with their skins on !if people dont like the skins they peel them after they are cooked and this only takes a few minutes. They do this with the potato on the fork and peel with the knife !they boil them till they are very soft and are delicious.
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: ansu on August 12, 2008, 08:07:09 PM At home we do this, too, but in the hotels or restaurants we get them peeled. However, in Wales all ate them with the skin.
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: Phoenix on August 15, 2008, 08:13:37 PM It is said. "The Goodness, is in the Skin" ?????
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: ansu on August 15, 2008, 08:54:44 PM We say directly under the skin - only with apples it's usually in the skin - but you can't eat it any longer as they use such a lot of poison to get bright apples.
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: Phoenix on August 15, 2008, 09:09:10 PM Canna beat a little 'Toxocity' ?? perhaps that is why there are so many more, Illnesses Today ??? Deliberate ??
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: mac on August 15, 2008, 09:44:16 PM Prince Charles spoke out the other day about GM foods, and the critics, for what they are worth, have been kind so far but one said it is necessary !
I agree with the prince. Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: ansu on August 16, 2008, 11:00:02 AM I don't know what Prince Charles said, but some weeks ago I watched a report on BIO food on TV and if I imagine that my BIO veggies have grown in and come from China, the meat and cheese from Roumania and Bulgaria, then I prefer our normal local veggies - there I know what I'm eating.
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: mac on August 16, 2008, 01:50:11 PM I think all GM food tastes the same bland !
We dont have many flies or birds or ladybirds or bees,or butterflies I could go on and on,I wonder if this GM thing has killed them off ? however we will be to blame for polution I guess. I was lucky enough to have a friend in Pembrokeshire who brought me some home grown pembrokes spuds...........blimey I had forgot what they tasted like I ate them just on their own to savour the taste delicious ! with a knob of butter. GM spuds wont be the same again. Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: ansu on August 17, 2008, 08:54:06 AM Spuds, what a nice word for potatoes lol
When my father was still alive he always grew potatoes, but now I have to buy them. However, the potatoes of our region are o.k. You can choose between different sorts. Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: Phoenix on August 19, 2008, 11:31:49 AM Will anything be the same as it was ?? I doubt it!!
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: ansu on August 19, 2008, 03:40:45 PM Times and conditions of living change quickly nowadays. My aunt always says that when I was a child I hated to go shopping and one day when I had to go shopping again I told my grandfather that one day we mustn't go any longer shopping, we just will eat pills......
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: mac on August 19, 2008, 07:20:28 PM Maybe you arent far wrong Teri......in the future !
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: ansu on August 19, 2008, 07:59:06 PM Mac, imagine what we would miss - that smell in the kitchen when you are cooking a good meal- and the veggies and salads that look and are so tasty!
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: mac on August 19, 2008, 10:48:13 PM Teri, cant imagine it,its what makes me want to eat !!!!
Title: Re: can you believe it? Post by: ansu on August 20, 2008, 04:07:57 PM Usually it's the hunger, but often it's just the smell of a good meal!
