Title: Hello, I'm Bernard
Post by: Bernard Smith on February 17, 2008, 01:03:37 PM
Hi....I'm new here and joined because I thought it might be a useful place to be.  I live in Plymouth, and am also having a property built in Turkey.  The plan is to spend some time in Plymouth, and some time in the warmth in Turkey.

Bernard, welcome to the forum. I'm living in Germany and we have a lot of Turks here - so my question what's the reason that you decided in favour of Turkey? It's warm there, that's true, but Turks have a different mentality - at least different from that of the Germans.

then why do the English prefer "sunnier" countries in the cold months. Two years ago when I was in Southern Spain in February it was crowded by English longing for a bit of sun.

Maybe as it is said, many Pensioners go abroad, during our Winter, to save on their home heating?? - I understand it works out quite cheap, for up to 3 months ??

Phoenix, they don't save such a lot, as their heating at home has to be switched on the whole winter, in order not to freeze - but on the other side they are between Brits again when they are in Spain - they just moved England to Spain lol

Hi Teri, The Heating need only be on Low Temp; to stop freezing. As we do on bad nights. -- Watched a TV. programme earlier this week, about the 'Brits' in Spain??  Many are having their homes broken into, by east europeon gangs, -- sometimes more than once!!

Sunshine ??  Seems most people go for 'warmer' climbes and i don't blame them. I will stay here where there is still so much to see:

As to the East European gangs breaking into homes, this is not only a problem in Spain, but also in my region.
My mother has a flat in Spain since more than 20 years and I cannot remember having heard from her that someone broke in. Perhaps they prefer the better off Brits - lol

Looks like criminals are moving around ?? -- Ten years ago, life was better!! Twenty years ago, Life was Much Better etc: -- It is the next Ten Years that will be more important?? -- If Human Rights --KEEPS OUT!!

Phoenix, of course, they do, but they always did.
The next ten years - who knows????

That is so True. But just why does the criminal fraternity expand so rapidly ?? -- Too many people for so few Jobs ??
Not enough Money to be 'earned' Honestly??
Bring back The Ten Copmmandments and enforce them??

Perhaps some people prefer earning their money "in a quick way" and not by working hard. I think even the reinforcement of the Ten Commandments wouldn't alter much. There have always been some not so honest people on earth.

To be sure!!  There is a lot of 'Nocturnal Activity' going on in Today's society, that 'beggar's belief'?? Of course this Is on the Increase, because it is sooo easy to obtain and there is really -- No Deterent!! QUICK AND EASY!! --
Thank God or the Devil, WE? do not all, Indulge??
No! The Ten Commandments, would not alter anything, as does NOT, any political motivational projects?? In spite of so very many Promices!!--- Which as I see it, will only esculate, to much higher proportions of any criminal/antisocial acts!! Wasting further Public funds!!

Thank whoever, that I am on The Way out!!
Can it really get so much worse ?? Yes!! It Can!!
There are a lot of people that dare not go out??
Is that how it has to be ????

Phoenix in Germany it's rather harmless to go out during daytime - at night it's different, that's true. But don't you think this is also due to TV - in the evening most people sit in their lounge in front of their TV and if anybody cries for help they won't hear it.

I agree with you Teri, people dont go out at night for many reasons now,one being they cant be bothered, two if you go for a drink and you smoke you cant have one,and the price of beer is expensive and then there is the safty aspect of it all.And fourth I dont want to go out anymore, where would i go ? cinema ? got the tele, pub ? I dont drink, nowhere else to go except church functions family `dos`We used to have dance halls but they have all gone.
So its down to holidays !!
How I look forward to them  ;D

Mac, I have to agree with you. I have said to Eve, shall we go out?? The answer??  where too!! I am lost as to just where to go -- We are not drinkers or even like bingo - If the halls are still there?? -- Hopefully we may well get out this summer --- But, Safety is uppermost!! --
People in general, feel so much safer when in their own Homes  ::) ::) ::)

If we go out, we go in a nice restaurant and have a good dinner. Now that smoking is no longer allowed in pubs, it might also be interesting to go there for a drink, above all in a so-called Biergarten in summer when it's hot and you can sit outside. But to be honest, I prefer my terrace.

What could be nicer, to sit out in a beer garden on a warm summers evening with a pint of bitter, and a young lady by your side. Dream on

'Biergarten'  "Swie Bier aud Swie Bratwurst, Bitte" ??
Not sure if correct -- Long time ago: ------
Them were the day's of sitting outside  a Pub, in the sunshine, with a nice 'Pinta' and your partner!!
That's in the past ---- So ???

" Dreams when your feeling blue, dream and they all come True" --- Well at least some do  ;D ;D ;D

Country boy, there won't be any Turks in the Biergarten, they are not allowed to drink alcohol and sitting in a beer garden with a glass of water in front of you - I don't know.
No, to be serious, beer gardens are typical German and Austrian as far as I know.
William, what bright prospects - one young lady at each side lol
