Not Dead Yet - Forum

A Saxon church, a glint of flint,
A broadbacked barn, a copper tint,
A dovecote round, a cedar tree.
A manor house, some topiary
A glimpse of lawn, a family,
A dog or two, deckchairs and tea,
A timbered pub, a village green,
A cricket match, the english scene.
Let England thus for ever be,
And I for one, content will be.

Thank You for that lovelly Poem. Reminds me of England in the 50/60s.  IF ONLY!! -- Have not read  'This England' Magazine, possibly I will try it?? - Normally I buy, 'The Best of British' magazine as it is about the, 40/50s.with a little of the 60s. -- For myself, The best Time there was. People became happier, work was plentiful, the N.H.S. really did work as it should!! People Had Pride and Disapline!!

phoenix, the magazine This England comes out quarterly. Its not particlarly cheap but is a very good read.
Don't know if you have recently visited Yours forum, you are in for a shock if you haven't!!! The powers that be have revamped it and things are not the same. We are trying a new forum called "Ours" Looks like the old yours forum.

Hello Betty, Good to hear from you!! --Tried once to get into the 'your's' forum, but no luck ?? --Will try in "ours" via goggle?? To see if ok??-- Will also lookout for "This England" magazine when due out. Bought "yours" mag: today, as normal. -- If something is 'running' well, why does it have to be changed??-- The weather is sure changing, so maybe it will KILL, some of The bugs going around ?? Betty it's a wonderful poem - it shows England like it is shown in our TV movies.
 We all dream of the "golden times" and forget that the golden times had also their "shadow side". In the UK it certainly was better than in Germany, where nearly everything was destroyed and had to be built up again.

Just dipping my toe into the water for a first post, Re- Germany, we lived there in the 70's when my Husband was in the army, and went back last September to visit our daughters grave in Hannover. We stayed in Bremen and got the Ice train to Hannover. What an excellent rail service.We were mighty impressed with the service we got and the welcome we recieved.

Pat, it's nice that you like/liked my country. The ICE is also my favourite train - I always use it when I visit my friend in Hamburg.
