Hi William,  Love those examples!!   But how True they are!!---  Reckon most of us say them!!   Sometime??

Who wants to be normal??   Whatever that may be, If the newspapers are anything to go by????

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: ansu on February 16, 2008, 03:03:44 PM
Phoenix, we all are convinced we are normal, even if we aren't - but just a question - what's normal?

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: Phoenix on February 17, 2008, 12:03:51 AM
"TO BE,OR NOT TO BE,THAT IS THE QUESTION"

With the usual 'rantings' in The National Press - If?? that is Normal?? If hurting and killing people  is considered Normal?? Then I personally, want No Part!!
Yobs, Attacking Firemen whilst engaged on putting out a Fire??  Paramedics, Ambulance staff being Attacked??
Arson?? The throwing of heavy bricks from a roadbridge onto Vehicles passing underneath?? God!! Where Does It ALL STOP?? -- It makes feel that I don't want to know!!
Just Who Is Interested In In Actually Stopping all these Problems, when The DO_GOODERS support these Hooligans?????

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: ansu on February 18, 2008, 09:09:39 AM
Phoenix, there must be a "reason" why hooligans became hooligans. Not that I support them, but I ask myself sometimes which faults have we made. You know, when I was young, my generation didn't consist only of angels, neither. But compared to today's youth we were harmless. There must be a reason for this "rage" - but which?

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: Phoenix on February 18, 2008, 02:41:27 PM
Exactly!!  If we knew , just what makes a criminal, do what they do, we may well be able to correct the problem??
Agreed. we perhaps was all mischevious at sometime in our 'younger' years -- But never, ever thought of breaking into someones Home, or assaulting another person, let alone literately 'KICKING' another person to Death!!
I still believe in Capital Punishment!!   A Life for A Life!! -- Thereby not giving a criminal the opportunity, to carry out that criminal Act Again!!

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: ansu on February 19, 2008, 08:31:28 PM
What would it change if a life is given for a life? That's like in the Middle Age or the Mafia in Italy.

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: Phoenix on February 20, 2008, 03:54:00 PM
NOT IN THE LEAST!!  ARE NOT PEOPLE INTELLIGENT ENOUGH TO KNOW 'RIGHT FROM WRONG'?? -- ARE NOT PEOPLE SUPPOSED TO BE 'LAW ABIDING CITIZENS' ?? -- IF A PERSON 'THINKS' THEMSELVES, OUTSIDE OF THE LAW AND COMMITS A CRIME?? SHOULD 'THE CRIMINAL' NOT FROFEIT ALL THEIR RIGHTS, UNTILL THE PENALTY IS 'PAID' FOR?? -- HOW DO YOU THINK THE WIVES OF HUSBANDS, PERHAPS 'KICKED TO DEATH' BY YOBOO'S, BECAUSE HE WAS DEFENDING HIS FAMILY AND HOME, FEEL ABOUT IT??
HOW WOULD YOU FEEL ?? -- HOW MANY PEOPLE WOULD TURN THE OTHER CHEEK AND SAY 'WHAT A SHAME?? ----
NO WONDER THERE IS SO MUCH CRIME AND DEATHS!! THERE IS NO DETERENT AND TOO MANY SO CALLED 'DO GOODERS'!! I DO NOT WANT TO LOSE ANY OF MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS BECAUSE OF CRIMINALS!!  NEITHER DO WE WANT OUR HOMES AND CARS BROKEN INTO!! -- NO WONDER THE 10 COMMANDMENTS HAVE BEEN CHANGED??

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: ansu on February 21, 2008, 09:15:58 AM
Phoenix, I share your feelings and thoughts, but I think there must be another way to punish them, but, please, don't ask me "which".

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: Phoenix on February 21, 2008, 08:37:17 PM
Believe it or not, I feel for people as a whole. Why should there be so many -- Victims??  These are The people who should say?? what the punishment should be!! --
Don't mention Re-education?? It does not appear to work with so many -RE- Offenders?? -- But to 'Forfeit' a Life for a Life, Is Good??

Its not sll doom and gloom, majority of teenagers are responsible citizens, its the change in lifestyle we oldies cant accept.

Hello William, Hum!! With no real 'system' working correctly, as one expects with 'Progress'??
Correct there, not all 'Teens' are bad, just those few 'rotten apples'!! -- Not sure about our change of lifestyle, except that it is much more - Sedate??

I have just come back from church, where the youth did the service, and it was excellent too.
My faith is restored in the younger generation once again especially as two of them got up a ladder to change light bulbs that are at least 50ft high !!!! one of them being the lad that is going to Afghanistan next week !

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: ansu on February 24, 2008, 08:41:19 PM
Young people what an interesting topic. There are good ones and bad ones. However, many German teens are spoilt.
When I was  young, young people got up when there were no free seats left in the bus or train and a senior citizen entered - today they no longer do - their reply: We have paid the same fare as the senior citizen.

Some, will not even 'hold open' the doors of Shops, for elderly people, even if they do have walking sticks??
Why do some have such bad manners??

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: mac on February 25, 2008, 03:30:10 PM
We were taught stand up for someone older than yourself, pregnant women and pensioners, the children dont know this now because their parents are not with them and if they were, would they tell them to stand ?
Queen Elizabeth the Queen mother when asked what can you give a child.............she answered "good manners" !

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: william on February 25, 2008, 06:48:34 PM
When I was young, we always called older men MR, nowadays it is all first names, a lot of young people today call thier mother by her first name, it makes me cringe.

You and ME Both!! The day's of set Standards!! I absolutely loath the use of christian names, as companies and shops do.  So 'cheapening'?? If one needs to make a note, then one has to ask for their 'surname'-- have you noticed, how 'they' look at you wondering just why ??
What happened to all the -- Smith's -- Brown's and Jones ??

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: Phoenix on March 01, 2008, 02:39:02 PM
The Grass may well be 'greener' untill one looks closer to the change of living there ?? --- i.e.  Nothing like one's own rear garden!! -- Oh! Yer!  Don't forget to Water and Feed the Lawns ?? - Ah!! The smell of new mown grass ??
s'lovelly!! -- Don't forget to 'clean' the mower Before putting it away?? -- Nearly forgot that!!

Phoenix, you are dreaming of summer aren't you? Will still take some time until then. Today we have a weather like in April, thunderstorms, snow, rain, wind, sunshine ......

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: mac on March 01, 2008, 06:37:06 PM
I am not sure Teri whether the grass is greener or not,all I know is they dont stand for any messing about like we do,the Ozzies say "if you dont like it go home" most settle in and the ones that came back are sorry soon after they arrive back home..................and back they go some of them anyway.
My cousin lives there he went on a £10 passage in 1970 and every time he comes home (every 2 years) he is dismayed at it all and the way it has changed. We are somewhat of a joke to them because we are so soft. There is no way he would come back here.

There are also positive sides - twenty years ago it wasn't possible for us to chat with someone somewhere in the world, going on holidays in foreign countries was rather expensive compared to today.

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: Phoenix on March 02, 2008, 09:49:48 PM
One can 'Chat' with a person, anywhere in The world. For those that do, with Microphone and Speakers - You need 'SKYPE' - Totally Free and the Speech is like talking to the same Person in your own room!! ------
Does anyone read "Old Moores Almanac" -- Predicts what will happen in the next year???

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: mac on March 03, 2008, 07:06:50 PM
No Phoenix I dont read it,not sure I want to know anyway,
Accept what I cannot change
Change what I cannot accept !

Hum!!  Just how are you going to change, that which you cannot accept?? -- As you do not read 'Old moore's' - I hope you do not read 'The Stars' in the Papers?? S'lie??

Guess nobody uses 'SKYPE' ??  Does nobody Talk to Family and Friends, in any part of The World  ??? ??? ???

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: william on March 03, 2008, 09:50:24 PM
Dont read Old Moores now, used to, its been predicting the end of the world since 1930.As long as you keep waking up in the morning, its a bonus

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: ansu on March 03, 2008, 09:57:10 PM
What's Skype? In Germany we have a religious group that predict from time to time the end of the world, but it still exists. Naturally one day it will end, but as far as I know in some millions of years.

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: Phoenix on March 05, 2008, 05:19:21 PM
SKYPE.  Is really Brilliant for Chatting and webcam. Just as the other Person is in The same room with you!!

Teri,  "THE END OF THE KNOWN WORLD IS NIGH"  ::) ::)
A New Planet have recently been discovered,   far, far away, so maybe, just maybe?? Everybody will Move 'Out there'  ::) ::) ::)

Hi Phoenix
I use MSN with webcam I think its the same sort of thing as skype.
I dont read the stars lol what will be will be.
I can change what I cannot accept by not condoning or buying or voting for it.
I can accept what I cannot change by learning to live with it ! ;D

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: Phoenix on March 05, 2008, 09:24:07 PM
Hello Mac, I use MSN for Chat as well as Skype, which I much prefer.--- True, we cannot change anything, as no one takes any notice of senior Citizens!! -- We are not really a 'complaining' generation, as with progress and modern idea's forthcoming, one would naturally believe that the 'Older People' would be better looked after  ::) ::) ::) Sadly, this is far from the Truth of the matter!! - Even with regard to -- Income/outgoing costs, it is certainly not easy to balance, all the time??

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: ansu on March 06, 2008, 10:30:41 PM
Phoenix, you are right, but I think there are just some senior citizens disposing of enough money or even more money than they really require. Naturally the majority just barely makes it, but the claims (?) changed, you do no longer need such a lot of money for clothes or food, but you need more money for medical and other help.

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: Phoenix on March 07, 2008, 12:03:14 AM
Hi Teri, True!!  Some 'Senior's are well off ??  - Possibly those who have been in Busines or are property Landlords.-- Whilst Clothes and Food is relativly cheap??
Spectacles are not! If one needs private medical help, as Eve has done, it cost £100 for 20 mins. examination?? - Also property maintenance is quite expensive. If our Boiler goes?? it would be about £1500 plus and it is 20 years old ?? -- Much better to be in Rented property. Completed around this area -- New Kitchens - New bathrooms - New Boiler/Heating System - New Double glazing all round with New Front Door?? New Guttering and facia's??
This Bungalow cost £1500 just for Guttering and Facia's last Year!! -- That Money, can not be saved again!!

Ten years ago I managed very well with a little to spare, this was when my hubby passed, now it is a different story I do not get any kind of benefits untill I have spent up.........question Why pay it in,in the first place ?
We are about to be re assessed for Rates now, bet your bottom dollar its a higher band ! so on top of the increase already incurred we will have more to pay when they re-assess.
I get £6 a week too much pensions and because of that i have to pay for everything, the ones who didnt pay a pension are far better off, because it is all paid for them or at least help is there. You are quite right Phoenix it is better to rent especially the over 50s flats.

The Really BIG question is ???? Whether to Laugh or Cry  ::) We are £5 over the top per week and Certainly Do Not Deserve Any Extra  ??? ??? ??? ???
Yet, how come those so called government officers, cannot manage on what they now receive   ::) ::) ::)--
After reading 'Littlejohn' in Todays Daily Mail, He Is The Only person That Speaks THE TRUTH -- I think must of us could weep and have a 'mental' breakdown  ::) ::) ::)
How come is Costs 3x more to Feed a Criminal, than it does a Senior peson in a Residential Home ??????
Could Someone Please Give ME The Answer  ::) ::) ::)

The saying "Rule of Thumb"... is a 17th century  measurement relating to the law which stated that a man could not beat his wife with a stick thicker than his thumb.

Now there's a thought - hope the wife doesn't read this or she'll hit me..lol

I was actually on my knees yesterday, planting our fruit trees. Got sore knees due to my kneeling on stones. Och!!

Went shopping this morning. Lady on the 'Till' said to Eve. "Do you want a hand packing"??  Eve said "No! I brought him with me" --- Were just s'lovelly with it ;D ;D

Phoenix you planted fruit trees - what kind of fruit trees did you plant? You know it takes a long time until you can collect your fruits. I have an apple tree in a pot on my terrace - I got three apples last year lol

Title: Re: sayings

Hi Teri, 1 Victoria Plum Tree and 1 Cherry tree. Yes, I thought it would take a few years, before any Fruitation??
Will have the pleasure of giving it 'tender loving care' and hope we have the patience  ::) ::)
Bet you really enjoyed those three Apples -- Home Grown!!

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: ansu on March 11, 2008, 09:29:03 PM
Indeed I did, above all if I consider how much ecological fertilizer I bought for them and how much water they required during the hot days lol

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: Phoenix on March 11, 2008, 11:13:36 PM
Ah!!  You supplied "Tender Loving Care" = Well Done!!
But, Did You Sing To them ?? To help produce lovelly fruit?? -- Water! Water! and not a drop to drink!!
Reminds me of the time before we changed our garden around to lower the maintenance. We had lots of hanging baskets and wall pots. Eve and I was like 'Ships' passing in the night -- Going backwards and forwards with watering cans, to the front and rear gardens. Phew!! It really took some work. Thankfully!! we now have much less watering to do  ::) ::) ::)

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: william on March 12, 2008, 07:17:48 PM
Hanging baskets were my wifes pride and joy, they were admired by all who saw them but to me they were a source of work and frustration, watering them 2 or 3 times a day, having most of the water you put in pouring out at the same time. Ah, how I wish I was doing them now.

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: Phoenix on March 12, 2008, 08:42:53 PM
Ah!William, We share the same feelings. Yes, it was most definately, a sourse of Work and Phew! frustration!! watering three times a day in the hot weather -- akin to ships, passing in the night? - backwards and forwards!!
But the sheer pleasure of looking at them all when finished, was a Joy to behold!! --- What cost, can one put on such shared pleasure?? -- Sadly, neither of us, are up to too much now, yet soon there will be lots to do. We will just have to take it slowly. but I am concerned it will not be like it was. This will be the first year, that we have had No Hanging baskets out the front = 6 minus.
Eve say's we are not having any out the rear garden either.
It is still early??  there's time  maybe ???

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: ansu on March 26, 2008, 07:54:14 PM
I hope Eve will change her mind - UK and hanging baskets that's one and the same for me.
In Germany hanging baskets are not very popular and you only can buy them in our shops since some years.
However, I must admit with "hanging plants" (geranium etc.) I don't have much luck, I think they don't like me lol

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: mac on March 26, 2008, 09:36:40 PM
Course they like you teri they need lots of water !
phoenix   you go for it lad get `em out it always looks nicer woith hanging baskets !

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: Phoenix on March 27, 2008, 12:46:21 AM
Hanging Baskets would be lovelly Again?? But when it is HOT watering them all, 3 times a day does tend to to remove some of the pleasure??

Teri >>I don't believe that The 'Geraniums' would not like you ??  Think of all that pleasure, you would Share??
I must admit the geraniums that I use to see, was only in window boxes. Looked really Wonderful Too!!

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: ansu on March 27, 2008, 11:49:09 AM
I didn't say geraniums don't like me, but if I put them in a pot and hang it somewhere, they no longer like me, perhaps it's too hot, too wet or too windy - I don't know, so I no longer have "hanging pots", but only flowers in pots placed on the floor of my terrace - there I have no problems with them at all.

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: Phoenix on March 27, 2008, 05:14:02 PM
Teri, Perhaps they need a little T.L.C. ?? Forget the weather and go outside and "Give'Em a Song" or -- Just Talk to them and tell them just how much you care??
They may well 'reward' you with their growing beauty!!

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: mac on March 27, 2008, 05:28:18 PM
The best geraniums I have ever seen are in spain and malta
so I guess they like it hot hot hot !!!

Mac, in summer it's quite hot there, 40 degrees C in the shadow, you burn your feet if you walk without shoes on the sand. Many years ago we spent our holidays in Rhodos in July and it was so hot that my daughters spent nearly the whole day in their air-conditioned room.
So I prefer to go there in May/June or from September onwards.

Title: Re: sayings

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: william on March 30, 2008, 04:56:00 PM
Mac, perhaps you are right and it's just a bit too cold and too rainy where I live.

It is a fact that more plants die from overwatering than underwatering.A plant will tell you when it wants water.
but not when its overwatered until its too late.

Title: Re: sayings
Post by: Phoenix on March 30, 2008, 07:36:23 PM
Hello William, Agree with you there. We normally lift our pots, to know if best to water, more so in the Hot weather. Doubt if we shall have any hanging baskets this year  ::) ::)

Is it snowing - here we have rain or rain mixed with a bit of snow - on the whole no weather that invites to go for a long walk.

Congratulations Mac - it's nice to hear that you decided in favour of holidays on the Continent. Perhaps Europe is not so bad as some Brits think and there are countries where the sun shines every day from spring to autumn.
