Title: Birds?? Post by: Phoenix on November 17, 2007, 03:12:14 PM Our garden still has some colour, am happy to say.
Birds?? Just had a Flock of 21 wood pidgeons feeding on some nice new, Brown grained Bread (apart from other birds) It was so good to see them 'Tucking In' and I shall have to get more bread tomorrow. -- Better than watching TV for Entertainment!! Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: mac on November 17, 2007, 05:22:00 PM It might be me but I feel birds are well worth watching, they are the future,if they dont breed or dont come back, we can then ask why,I hope to see many robins etc this winter. ! would be lovely
Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: Phoenix on November 18, 2007, 03:01:09 PM Hello Mac, Yes, the Birds certainly are 'worth watching'-- Just where would we be without them ?? (Birds and Animals)
Like a lot of 'morons' I think -- with 'Smiles and Laughter' getting less and less?? ------- We still watch all the wildlife programmes on TV --- Untill we find we are watching, Our Own Wildlife, in Our Garden. Most of all, we keep a watch, on our 'Lady Blackbird' with a Bad Foot. She has been coming here for some years now -'Bless Her' Ah! Well! Shops tomorrow for some fatballs and seed and more brown bread. They are worth every single £1 we spend, for the enjoyment we receive. Bless them again!! Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: Phoenix on December 13, 2007, 12:19:44 PM The Birds!! Bless Them!! On a Cold and Frosty Morning??
and not any Food In Sight ?? ------ Yes, it sure was Cold Deicing the bird bath's and putting our lots of Food etc: I just 'loved' it? (shivering) --- I did Toooooo!! As soon as I got back in??? -- Just where did 'They' come from?? -- A bit of 'detective work this ?? I am sure their little beady eye's, keep a lookout for us oldies?? They sure have us --- Well Trained!! Just Gotta buy more brown bread?? = One has To Pay?? For One's Enjoyment!! ---- Terrific and Well Worth every pound!! Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: mac on December 13, 2007, 05:51:16 PM One of lifes pleasures phoenix
Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: Phoenix on December 14, 2007, 05:37:17 PM Mac, Just sitting here and looking out the patio windows, it is quite hard to explain The Real Pleasure we get, watching all the Birds come down to Feed. -- Our 'expenditure' has now gone UP!! Buying more brown bread, fatballs and seed and mealie worms etc:
So much better than having a night out -- Cheaper too!! The hard bit?? Forgetting to Empty The Bird baths at night, to save De-Icing in the morning?? Senior Moment ?? Love it the way, as soon as I get indoors, Down They Come, so naturally, the food does not last long --- and Back out i Go!! --- But, we do enjoy The Great pleasure: Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: ansu on December 14, 2007, 08:58:03 PM What a nice hobby - have you ever tried to take photos of the birds? Must be very calming to watch the birds outside.
Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: mac on December 14, 2007, 11:42:08 PM I am sure you do phoenix
I was watching them feed one day at my brothers house in the lakes, and the cat got one and killed it I was mortified but again thats what life is about I guess. Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: Phoenix on December 15, 2007, 04:18:51 PM Teri, It must be the next best hobby to going out, and Watching the birds. Have taken a few Photo's; but they are too timid to get close. It really is soooo Peaceful.
Mac, Guess we are lucky, with regard to Cats, no real problems. When we had two cats, they just used to watch with us. ----- Thankfully!! We would feel 'mortified' if we saw a cat around the Birds, stalking. Happy it does not happen?? Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: Phoenix on January 06, 2008, 08:46:05 PM Anybody seen any Sparrows lately ?? Get an ocassional 1/2 and thats it. Have'nt seen a flock of Sparrows since last year ????? -- There is more blackbirds though:
Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: ansu on January 07, 2008, 07:50:50 PM In my garden there are sparrows, blackbirds, tits and robins at present. However, I can't send you any sparrows - you are living too far away.
Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: Phoenix on January 07, 2008, 09:19:46 PM Teri, We have lots of Blackbirds, Starlings and Ring necked Pidgeons, Blue?black Tits and One Robin that Sings in our laurel bush, most mornings. -- But Sparrows are no so rare, possibly something is killing them off??
Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: ansu on January 09, 2008, 07:31:33 PM But your birds don't sing yet, do they?
Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: Phoenix on January 10, 2008, 03:35:39 PM Only the Robin gives us a song, mostly in the mornings and it's a joy to listen.
Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: ansu on January 12, 2008, 06:50:06 PM At this time of the year, that's interesting. Where I lived before only the sparrows were quarrelling the whole year long even in the morning.
Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: Phoenix on January 12, 2008, 09:23:23 PM The Robin was singing again this morning. When we used to get a lot of Sparrow's they used to gather in our Laurel Bush and appeared to be constantly 'quarrelling. -- Sadly we only see 1/2 sparrows at a time and not very often. Even had our Crow to visit this morning. Picks up a piece of bread, dips it in the bird bath and flies away.
Blackbirds are plenty, but not seen our lady blackbird with her bad foot for at least 5 days now. We miss her. Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: ansu on January 13, 2008, 10:03:45 AM Phoenix, birds are independent creatures - but the lady blackbird will certainly come back.
Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: mac on January 13, 2008, 01:30:35 PM Could the squirrels have anything to do with the sparrows?
the squirrels are going into the trees where they lay their eggs, however there are still plenty of Magpies Starlings blue tits ducks seagulls crows blackbirds pidgeons herons robins and in may the Swifts are back cant wait ! Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: Phoenix on January 14, 2008, 11:30:26 PM Hi Mac, Sure hope our lady Blackbird, does come back. Kind of worrying ?? we do get variety which is so enjoyable. So much better than TV??
Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: ansu on January 15, 2008, 09:46:47 AM Phoenix you are right, birds start singing again - I heard it yesterday afternoon.
Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: Phoenix on January 16, 2008, 04:21:00 PM Singing Again?? Reminds me of last summer!! A Blackbird used to SING at 3.30am. close by, and would 'wake' me!!
As the Bodyclock took over?? I would be wide awake and would get up and make a cuppa and have a ciggy --Then normally go back to Bed?? sometimes I was so awake that I stayed up. But?? What price Pleasure ?? Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: mac on January 16, 2008, 08:43:03 PM phoenix
put the tape recorder on and get back to bed !!!!! ;D Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: Phoenix on January 16, 2008, 08:59:24 PM Mac, Ah! a word of wisdom with nice thoughts!!
At that time of morning, I might forget to plug the Mic: in! Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: Phoenix on April 23, 2008, 03:27:15 PM Here we all are - 3 months onwards and the pleasure of Birds returning. Has been a slow buildup but worth waiting for. Better start getting more 'fatballs' in stock etc:
our lady Blackbird is back again and getting more frequent. Happy day's?? They are a'coming!! Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: ansu on April 25, 2008, 09:09:28 PM Nice to hear your "family" is complete again!
Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: Phoenix on April 27, 2008, 07:38:35 PM Teri, Thank You!! What a lovelly way to think of it!! Must tell Eve that. our family just sound Great!!
This is now the second day, of being able to sit outside, with a cuppa and a ciggy -- All that fresh air, blue sky and closer to the birds -- Eve did say it was better than going out for the day. Yes, we did some garden work as well and are slowly improving the outlook. Have to buy some more plants -- Tomorrow!! Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: ansu on April 28, 2008, 10:45:06 AM Saturday I also started working in the garden. There are a lot of weeds. However, as I will go on a holiday tomorrow the weeds must wait!
Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: mac on April 28, 2008, 02:35:28 PM Have a lovely holiday Teri ! :D
Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: ansu on April 28, 2008, 05:29:55 PM Thank you, Mac!

Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: ansu on May 09, 2008, 07:46:45 AM Phoenix, that's true - it will take me days to do the weeding! I tried to take a photo of the Capadocian birds for you, but they were much quicker than me and there are only bushes on the photos. However, it was wonderful to listen to their songs!
Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: Phoenix on May 10, 2008, 09:07:10 PM Ah!! The Beauty of Nature?? You sure know that we Both, love to watch The Birds that visit our garden!!----- had to clean and fill both bird baths, 3 x friday and saturday! When a pidgeon has a bath-- There's an extra fill up -- they sure know where to come -- for clean baths?? -- Had three magpies down today. Yer?? I should have had the camera ready?? -- Ah!! nearly forgot?? was out in the garden tonight just before 9.00pm. having a ciggy and "Listening To The Birds" absolutely Wonderful ;D ;D ;D
Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: ansu on May 10, 2008, 09:17:28 PM When I flew in a balloon over the landscape of Capadocia I had to get up very early and the "morning song" of the birds was fantastic. As I'm more a night owl than an early bird, I don't have too often the opportunity to be welcome in the morning by birds welcoming the new day. Fortunately I have a blackbird in my garden which "sings" also in the evening.
Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: Phoenix on May 10, 2008, 09:23:20 PM Sure is a wonderful sound!! Wonder what they Sing about ??
So 'peaceful' and Totally relaxing --- and Makes One Forget The Work!! Terrific!! Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: ansu on May 12, 2008, 03:17:14 PM At school we were told they are welcoming the morning or the evening, resp.
Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: william on May 12, 2008, 04:22:32 PM The morning song as you call it Teri, is known here as the dawn chorus. Unfotunately my dawn chorus is spoiled by the darned pigeons coo cooing, I could shoot em.
Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: ansu on May 12, 2008, 08:51:42 PM Pigeons can only be found in our city center and they are sometimes a plague.
Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: william on May 13, 2008, 01:30:08 PM Unlike most other birds, pigeons can breed all year round.
We have a few of their natural predators, the Kestre here, there is not enough to keep their numbers down. Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: mac on May 13, 2008, 03:21:12 PM its better than Cockerals william lol
Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: Phoenix on May 13, 2008, 08:46:10 PM Cockerals?? Crowing??? Wow!! Don't seem all that long ago?
I choose to think, that The 'Dawn Chorus' is a way of saying ----"Good Morning People" ::) ::) ::) Whatever they are, They are alway's Welcome!! Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: mac on May 13, 2008, 10:43:31 PM Yes they are phoenix, they dont wake me lol

Post by: ansu on May 24, 2008, 08:00:43 PM Phoenix, I fully understand your feelings, our generation still has the impression to have a handicap is a shame. However, if we are honest, we must admit that the majority of the senior citizens has the one or other - more or less visisble - handicap. And I think we should be proud that - even inspite of our handicaps - we are still so active.
What I personnally appreciate most in the so-called "third age" is that we mustn't any longer prove ourselfes that we can achieve something. We already have shown it! Title: Re: Birds?? Post by: mac on May 24, 2008, 11:21:19 PM Teri is right Phoenix, you have nothing to prove you have proved it !!!
