there has apparently an idea in london to build a Mega Mosque costing £100 million in time for the 2012 olympics. It will be the largest building people will see when arriving in this country. Christians have been constructing large buildings  for over a thousand years  -- guess it had to catch on sooner or later

I wonder if people felt the same in days gone by about the synagogues ? but these I know the Jews built themslves.

Speaking Personally I am Offended by this post...We are and have been living in a multi-racial britain and we have been for a long time...Mainy Muslims were born here and have just as much of a right to a place of worship as anyone. I am myself not religeous but realise that everyone has a right to worship who they choose...As for this is England just shows how little knowledge of these Islands some folks have....About 15,000 years ago this Island was covered in Ice no one lived here then a few tribes came over from mainland europe crossing the land mass that  is now the English channel, Later the Normans came and the Vikings, many of these races remained here, Lincolnshire is full of villagers with Norvick names...There are many pensioners living here now who have moved here from far and wide and have paid there taxes and worked hard to build a life...I'd like to think that they were just as welcome to join this Website as anyone else.

So please lets be carefull that we don't offend anyone or there religion

skeggy I didn't mean to offend you, the point that was raised and I hoped I was passing on was the cost. Perhaps I didn't make it clear, it seems to be an idea of ken livingstones. Its not the religious aspect that people are concerned about. I should imagine londoners would have concerns if it was a church, synagogue or quaker meeting house. Its the cost and where the money is coming from.I do apologise if I have upset you, perhaps I shouldn't pass on news items!

Betty..I too am cornerned with cost to do with public expenditure but without knowing the full facts of the matter its hard to judge ... David Dimbleby visited a mosque the other day on his programme, its the biggest in the country but all the materials used in the making were built and shipped over from India...No i'm more concerned by other coments that a post like this can encourage...

I dont think you any need to apologise Betty, you were only quoting the facts as you saw them.As far as im aware we are still allowed freedom of speech in this country.

Betty It was not what you did that i was offended by you just passed on the news , I must admit that when i first saw the subject of the post i was concerned comments of a racial nature could be added..So when i saw Pheo's reply I may have over reacted a little. looking at the post today i may well have miss judged the wording. But I thought he was implying that this is England and a Mosque has no place here. Sorry But if ever I hear the phrase ' England for the english, It makes me very angry...Many Asians and other people of the commenwealth fought for this country in WW 2. many were born here. If we hope to live in peaceful harmony with people of all race, creed or religion then we all have to make an effort. I'm pleased to see that many of our youngsters are already doing this and its important that our generation set a good example.

Regarding Free speech I think the boundary's have been changed considerably of late...Quite rightly it is now an offence to utter any comments that could incite racial violence and its clear from recent cases that the courts will enforce this law...Also i'm glad to see that the 'N' word has been outlaw and at last racial chants have been removed from our football stadiums..So in a matter of saying this country does not support free speech if it could be seen to cause offence. Lol i'll get off my soap box now and hope the matter is closed.

One should not misunderstand, that which is stated!!
It is all too clear, that this country is no longer Great Britain, as previously known for absolutely, Decades!!
but is now broken up into, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and England!! I most certainly was NOT Implying this England of ours, was for The English Only!! One should NOT also jump to the conclusion, that what one says, is always racial!! -- Everyone does have a 'Right' to their own opinion -- Not to be 'forced' to accept othere's because 'their 'opinion' is Different!! Did you not 'Fail' to note, those people?? in todays paper, with notice boards saying, "British police Go To Hell" -- Surely one cannot agree with demonstrations of that kind?? Not the first time either!! Those people I condemn!! Should people decide to live in another country?? They must Obey, that Countries laws. Not try to change them!! There will be many that disagree with that, as there will be many that agree!!-- Remember all persons have a 'right' to their Own Opinion!!

So after all this disscution...i just wonder if it gets planning permission.....

In talking to 'Michael' a few months ago, I was made aware of His running 'Petition' And Immediately signed and made my friends aware!!-- I have no Idea how many have 'signed' to date, as I have since deleted the listings.
