Thr Killer Petal,in the d mail this am, man slips on flower petal and is suing the shopkeeper for a million and a half pounds.already ot has cost the shopkeepr £40,000 in legal costs, the irony is, helooks like winning.I despair.
When are we going to get some judges who have got the guts to throw these cases out. Soon the leaves will start falling, then we can all use a bit of cunning and be able to retire with a nice fat handout.

Re law suits  --- it was a big mistake to take the prohibition off Solicitors advertising their services and being able to approach prospective clients !
Why were they called solicitors in the first place ?

I read today of a guy who is forgetful,he is only 57.
It is the only time i have heard of forgetfulness making any sense, apparently he bought a lottery ticket and then forgot he had bought it !
So he bought another one ! same numbers
And lo and behold he won the jackpot not once but twice !!!!!
He won £479.142 twice,but...........there were 5 winners, and if he had only bought one ticket he would have won £598.927.twice..........I dont think he will be too bothered! ;D

Title: Re: News Snippets??
Post by: Phoenix on February 24, 2008, 04:58:52 PM
Mac,  Quite right. I still want to believe, that People were 'better behaved'??  At least in the 50/60s.??  Since then, every decade seems to have got worse, as with so much has/is being totally abused. -- Perhaps, I would like to see more good/encouraging Items in the newspapers, just for the benifit for people?? -- Even Today!! Many crimes do not get reported, as the victims only receive a number??
This would include, Rape, Break ins, Animal Cruelty(up) and Child Cruelty, Arson, Theft and there must be many more, as the victims are sometimes, Ignored??

Title: Re: News Snippets??
Post by: ansu on February 27, 2008, 09:48:59 PM
You are right - people behaved better in the 50/60s - but I think it's also a bit our fault - we brought up this generation. Maybe we spoilt them too much.

Mac, Is It not, the way we are 'supposed' to be ?? the frequency is increasing with age --- and Maturity??
The main 'culprit' is the news ?? = Remedy?? Don't Watch and Don't Read ?? --- Suggest to Ignor --Might get worse ??

Title: Re: News Snippets??
Post by: ansu on April 06, 2008, 10:31:43 AM
Mac, you can write to your British representative in Brussels. Every country has representatives there. However, I'm of the opinion that they don't "move" fast enough, they are working much too slow. It's true there are some sectors where they do a good job (fihting against crimes), but on others (protection of environment) they are only discussing.

Title: Re: News Snippets??

HUM!! Some have already been found out??  Signed IN and gone away, then come back, -- to sign Out!! ---
So first you have to find them?? --or write>> But only expect a reply from The Secretaries, secretary  ::) ::)

Teri, Although your list was interesting, I have taken a 'Diplomatic' Retreat, from Political Issues!!
I, as with othere's cannot continue to accept their lie's and betrayl to our people!! -- We cannot find a person or party, capable of 'lifting this country' out of The Pit!!

Title: Re: News Snippets??
Post by: ansu on April 12, 2008, 10:31:17 AM
Mac, I suppose they are trying their best for the UK, but it's difficult - consider there are such a lot of people of different countries and mentalities together and to reconcile them must be hard. If I think of my family - we were only four persons, but most of them individualists and it was sometimes nearly impossible.
So don't be too severe with your UK representatives in Brussels.

From the D.Mail, York city council have fitted their refuse wagons with Stat Navs and maps of mainland Europe at a cost of £40,000. I bet the residents are delighted that their council tax is being spent wisely.

A SHORT SHARP SHOCK FOR KNIVERS, STILL PUSSYFOOTING ABOUT. HOW THESE THUGS WILL ENJOY A DAY AT THE HOSP, VISITING THERE VICTIMS. PROBABLY NICK A FEW BSYRINGES AND DRUGS WHILE THEY ARE THERE. THE ONLY SHORT SHOCK THEY WANT IS AN ELECTRIC ONE.

William I think i might be the only one to get 6 different meals from 1 chicken !
2 chicken dinners
2 chicken curries
at least 4 bowls of soup !
and the cost of the chicken already cooked to save on gas is £2.50...........not bad eh ? better than stopping eating and dying init lol
ps I have been known to get even more than that !! lol

Well done Mac, will take some beating.
One other thing on saving money,is,never leave your tv on stand by, apart from wear and tear on the works, it uses quite a lot of electric.

Title: Re: News Snippets??
Post by: ansu on September 26, 2008, 09:58:41 AM
Don't you have "advisors for saving energy" in the UK. In Germany you can ask one to come and check where you can save energy. Some months ago they showed two families on TV who had asked one to come and they had shown there where the families could save energy. However, to be honest the families had to do without much comfort we are nowadays accustomed to.

Title: Re: News Snippets??
Post by: mac on September 26, 2008, 04:51:42 PM
Yes we have them Teri
and they then tell you the cost of the saving, which usually far outweighs the cost of the electric itself !lol

MEPs yesterday voted to increase the EU budget to
£99billion  for next year. The £876m increase is on top of the £10.4 billion Brits already fork out to keep the Brussels gravy train rolling. The hike is £7.65billion more than the blocs 27 governments agreed to and £7billion more than the EU ruling commissio9n says it needs.MEPs say they need the extra money for projects like turning the EU into a role model on how to combat climate change. The tories opposed the increase but were out-voted.
Tory Richard Ashworth says this makes the EU look like a banana republic.
I think it stinks!!!! shameless !!!!!!!

Read on the internet this am. A man on te paris express, dropped his mobile down the loo, on reaching in to get it back the suction pulled his whole arm in and he was stuck fast.Emergency services were called, After an hour they managed to ease his plight. He was carried of the train on a stretcher with the loo still on his arm. He was later freed. The emergenct services were flushed with success.

Title: Re: News Snippets??

Val, I think this story will please you.

"The yellow shirt  had long sleeves, four extra-large pockets trimmed in black thread and
snaps up the front.  It was faded from years of wear, but still in decent shape.  I found it
in 1963 when I was home from college on Christmas break, rummaging through bags of clothes
Mom intended to give away.  'You're not taking that old thing, are you?' Mom said when she
saw me packing the yellow shirt.  'I wore that when I was pregnant with your brother in
1954!'

'It's just the thing to wear over my clothes during art class,

Mom.  Thanks!'  I slipped it into my suitcase before she could object. The yellow shirt be
came a part of my college wardrobe.  I loved it. After graduation, I wore the shirt the day
I moved into my new apartment and on Saturday mornings when I cleaned.

The next year, I married.  When I became pregnant, I wore the yellow shirt during big-belly
days.  I missed Mom and the rest of my family, since we were in Colorado and they were in
Illinois   But that shirt helped.  I smiled, remembering that Mother had worn it when she
was pregnant, 15 years earlier.

That Christmas, mindful of the warm feelings the shirt had given me, I patched one elbow,
wrapped it in holiday paper and sent it to Mom.  When Mom wrote to thank me for her 'real'
gifts, she said the yellow shirt was lovely.  She never mentioned it again.

The next year, my husband, daughter and I stopped at Mom and Dad's to pick up some
furniture.  Days later, when we uncrated the kitchen table, I noticed something yellow taped
to its bottom.  The shirt!

And so the pattern was set.

On our next visit home, I secretly placed the shirt under Mom and Dad's mattress.  I don't
know how long it took for her to find it, but almost two years passed before I discovered it
under the base of our living-room floor lamp.  The yellow shirt was just what I needed now
while refinishing furniture.  The walnut stains added character.

In 1975 my husband and I divorced.  With my three children, I prepared to move back to
Illinois .  As I packed, a deep depression overtook me. I wondered if I could make it on my
own.   I wondered if I would find a job. I paged through the Bible, looking for comfort.  In
Ephesians, I read, 'So use every piece of God's armor to resist the enemy whenever he
attacks, and when it is all over, you will be standing up.'

I tried to picture myself wearing God's armor, but all I saw was the stained yellow shirt.
Slowly, it dawned on me.  Wasn't my mother's love a piece of God's armor?  My courage was
renewed.

Unpacking in our new home, I knew I had to get the shirt back to Mother. The next time I
visited her, I tucked it in her bottom dresser drawer.

Meanwhile, I found a good job at a radio station.  A year later I discovered the yellow
shirt hidden in a rag bag in my cleaning closet.

Something new had been added.  Embroidered in bright green across the breast pocket were the
words 'I BELONG TO PAT.'

Not to be outdone, I got out my own embroidery materials and added an apostrophe and seven
more letters.  Now the shirt proudly proclaimed, 'I BELONG TO PAT'S MOTHER.'  But I didn't
stop there.  I zig-zagged all the frayed seams, then had a friend mail the shirt in a fancy
box to Mom from Arlington , VA.   We enclosed an official looking letter from 'The Institute
for the Destitute,' announcing that she was the recipient of an award for good deeds.  I
would have given anything to see Mom's face when she opened the box.  But, of course, she
never mentioned it.

Two years later, in 1978, I remarried.  The day of our wedding, Harold and I put our car in
a friend's garage to avoid practical jokers. After the wedding, while my husband drove us to
our honeymoon suite, I reached for a pillow in the car to rest my head.  It felt lumpy.  I
unzipped the case and found, wrapped in wedding paper, the yellow shirt.  Inside a pocket
was a note:  'Read John 14:27-29.  I love you both, Mother.'

That night I paged through the Bible in a hotel room and found the verses: 'I am leaving you
with a gift: peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give isn't fragile like the peace the
world gives.  So don't be troubled or afraid.  Remember what I told you: I am going away,
but I will come back to you again.  If you really love me, you will be very happy for me,
for now I can go to the Father, who is greater than I am. I have told you these things
before they happen so that when they do, you will believe in me.'

The shirt was Mother's final gift.  She had known for three months that she had terminal Lou
Gehrig's disease.  Mother died the following year at age
57.

I was tempted to send the yellow shirt with her to her grave.  But I'm glad I didn't,
because it is a vivid reminder of the love-filled game she and I played for 16 years.
Besides, my older daughter is in college now, majoring in art.  And every art student needs
a baggy yellow shirt with big pockets."

There will always be tyrants as long as world exists!

Teri, this is how we the brits think love,Hitler was a dictator, people dictate to us all the time,we dont like it.
So people that tell us what to do or what we cant do are dictators ! ie: politicians and morrisons !
now the Eu dictate to us..........and we let them .

Mac - that's quite true - modern people don't like to be told what they have to do.
However, please, don't be offended - sixty years after the last war I think it should be time to just consider Hitler as an "evil" of the 20th century and not as someone Germans have to be blamed for ever. I was just 1 1/2 years old when war stopped. We lost it - we had to bear the consequences - for instance my family was thrown out of Hungary, others had to flee - we all came in a destroyed Germany - had to live under miserable conditions - 7 people sharing one room for some years. Believe me, I, for instance was punished for something I wasn't responsible for and so I react a bit sensitive on the name "Hitler".
Moreover, in the meantime such a lot of other tyrants have come up and gone in other countries, even European countries.
I hope you will understand my view in this respect.

No I don't, he was a very evil man and doesn't deserve anything but contempt, he tried to take over Europe, even yourself suffered so don't tell me you're trying to defend his name, believe me he shouldn't be forgotten for the evils he did and I will continue to use his name in a derogatory  manner and certainly won't apologise for it and I'm offended even if mac isn't. I said nothing about Germany , if you are sensitive about it, tough, maybe I would've grown up with a father if it wasn't for him and who else has tried to conquer Britain in recent history? Were you responsible? I think not, so why be so touchy about it?

I am trying to understand your view Teri, this man caused a world war,I dont know why you defend him, whether you are German or not.
I think this subject should close now.

Title: Re: News Snippets??
Post by: Teri on December 18, 2008, 01:36:39 PM
Val, maybe nobody won't understand, but Hitler has cost us Germans a lot of reputation and money which we paid without moaning, because we all know that what he did was a crime.
It's true that nobody conquered Britain in recent history, but you had a French king and his offsprings as kings for nearly 200 years.
You see it is useless to discuss about history or politics - so I accept Mac's propose to close the subject, although there could be still a lot of facts to discuss.
I accept your point of view and maybe you can also accept mine. When I first travelled to England and France I was considered as an "ugly person" only because I was German and that's not really easy to cope with.

There is really no point, in going back to past history. Only that relevant, to our generation involvement. Hitler and the Nazi's were totally Evil, to every countries population, that they conquered, during the last war.(with the help of those traitors, that joined the german army) The torture, killings, destruction of property and essential services, cannot be excused. Millions suffered in every country, not just germany(they paid the price, for supporting their leader)
The crimes were against Humanity, of which many Nazi's. escaped justice, to this day!! --- Read The Book!!
"THE RISE AND FALL OF THE THIRD REICH"  by William L.Shirer.
I have other books too.-- Don't forget also ?? THE DEATH CAMPS. No possible excuse, can be acceptable!!
This is certainly not a case of 'offending' any person, only telling The truth!! Of which, our Elderly Senior Citizens (those that were involved in the war) are Witnesses.-- I agree, this should now be Closed. Thank You:
