Title: The snooper's census: 2011
Post by: Rie on October 26, 2009, 08:50:18 AM
Ministers are being accused of planning to snoop into citizens' private lives in the most intrusive national census ever carried out.

The 2011 survey will demand to know how many bedrooms there are in homes and detailed information about any 'overnight visitors'.

Other new questions include how well respondents can speak English, what kind of central heating they have installed, whether they have a second home, how they define their national identity and whether they are in civil partnerships.

The Conservatives said the attempt to find out sleeping arrangements was particularly objectionable.

The demand for the number of bedrooms in each home, coupled with a requirement to give the name, sex, date of birth and address of any overnight visitors, amounted to 'bedroom snooping', they said.

This is disgusting, or are they just trying to keep records for future generations?

This interests me because ive done my family history, and being of the travling kind any information i got was of inportance ,  i found  them only in 1901 census , but relations of theres were Visiting on another census, it would have helped if there address was included, it did give what relation they were to the people they were visiting , which confirmed stories id heard .
So   giving some details of others in the house is not new , Frankly we all write our own census now , so it dont matter what you put down ,  if you have a lover or eligale lodger , your hardly likely to  put that down. as to the amount of bedrooms , im sure we filled in one years ago that had to have measurements of each room .
Census gives a overall  not accurate view on the country/household ,  the amount living in unheated houses , and such ,  Whos in work , or on benifits

Indeed a very interesting thread.

We are at the end of the day being snooped on in every day things we do, or in some cases dont do.

I have nothing to hide and to that end I will answer the questions posed, but if there are any that I feel go over the limits of decency then I will leave it blank.

I have no reason to stop people knowing that I live in a thirteen beroomed mansion and that I have the Lord Mayor of London stay over on the odd occasion when he wants a break from his cushy job.

No doubt the information that one gives will be made available to all and sundrie in India in the very near future so that they can sell it on so that we are each cloned and you land up with two of each of us living in the UK, one (you or I ) that has paid his taxes etc, and the other living off the state (Them).

Probably !
I think the true Brits of this country are fairly honest,I wonder if there is another way of doing it,like Family allowance ,pensions, benefits, tax, surely this would cover most people.
But hey what do we know ?  ::)

Question:-  Define -- Truth and Honesty.?????

A variety of opinions, may well open up. ?????

The Truth is what you want to believe in.

Honesty is something that you hope you are, and wish that others were the same. ;)

Chris, Thanks for your answer. It would appear, that"Truth" as we know it, just does Not excist.
"Honesty" is shown by those who 'lead' to be pure unadulterated fantacy, which has deteriated over the last decade or so. Just how low, can our standards sink ????????

Does anyone really believe this will be accurate in this day and age ?
I sure as hell dont !
how many are going to tell the truth about where they are on that day/night.
How many will actually know where they are on that day or night ?
Not the ones just arriving by lorry.
Not the ones already here illegally,so lets cut our losses and  forget it,put the money it is going to cost back in the coffers, and give us all a tax rebate ! :-\ :-[ ::) :o ;)

Long gone are the days when people respected anything the government said and if it had to be done we did it, the fear of punishment was enough. I'm as confused as the next person who to trust now, certainly not our elected so called leaders. How do we know the things they can get from a census, like identity fraud won't be abused. I don't trust whoever it is on the receiving end and it does make you a bit wary putting anything down. I agree Cath, scrap it.

As I have said before. Could a "Pensioners Political Party" actually work, for the service and benifit of our own people
What is your opinion ????  All those 'lost skills' gone to waste.

As long as it isn't run by politicians. Any party would work if there's honest decent folk running it and they love Britain but where would you find people like that?

Well they keep telling us we are a nation of oldies, therefore we should hold the majority vote shouldnt we ? but we are so much divided, and set in our ways we just hate change. But change it has to.
The home secretary yesterday finally admitted they had made a mistake with immigration  ::)
Now if they had listened to us ........we already knew didnt we  :o
How long will it be before they admit to the EU mistake ?
God I hope its sooner rather than later.

Yes I saw that Cath, they should've believed Enoch Powell. how come he knew the truth then but its taken them all these years to see it, its going to take something really drastic for changes to happen now, I'm just hoping the government make the changes before the natives get too restless, in some areas that is already happening and violence on the streets we don't need.

There seems to be, over 11 million Senior Citizens in our country. So many must have fought in the last war, as possibly many are thinking -- What was the point ???????

I am sure that you must be aware that some Good People, have been Sacked, just for Speaking The Truth.
There maybe nobody capable of 'correcting' that which is so very wrong. A landslide, cannot be stopped ?????????????

They still don't get the expenses scandal do they? They still think it was an okay thing to do. Makes you wonder if they they are as selfish and greedy when making decisions about the country.I expect so, thats why we're in such a mess.

Hello Val, Your an earlybird, this morning.
The MPs. would have taken it for granted, it must have been going on for sooo long --- "Customs and Practice" = Anormal perk ???????  The only positive decisions they make, are for themselves, such as a rise ?? or more pension ??
Making a decision regarding the country and it's people, now that is something they have proved is almost impossible. Surely that is proved by the present state we are in. ????????????????

One of the dogs got me up early, I think she's eaten too much, she was outside eating grass for her belly. Although they've got a dog flap we shut the kitchen door at night because Monty goes outside barking and we don't want to disturb the neighbours.

Hi Val, We found that when we had the Jack Russel, it was a case of 'give and take' - The first being a good guard dog and the second, Barking at every sound, the source of which, she could not see. As we both became unable, to give her the walks and excersize she needed, we both agreed that we could not give her the quality of life that she required. We had no choice but to send her to the kennels. We both felt guilty and we both shed some tears. Yes, we also had taken into account, the fact of disturbing the neighbours and receiving complaints. Although this was last august, we both still have that guilt.

You are so right Phoenix Jacks are a law unto themselves and not an easy dog to own. I've always loved them they are so funny, we are very fortunate living here we have the space on the beach to exercise them well to drain all the energy they have. They do seem to get upset tummys a lot though, mind you they seem to sniff out anything and everything.

Hi Val, Yes, jack Russels really are a lovelly. A good member of the family, as long as your in control ??
"Misty" was just great, but mobility was on her side, even with that long lead. They sure love to sniff everything around (get a breather then) and z\are great fun too. Misty use to love being on my lap, which totally suprised me, but showed that she had accepted me. I really hated the thought of her having to go, but she had to come first before our feelings.

You did the right thing Phoenix keeping her would've made you both unhappy and you'd have felt even more guilty. No doubt she's got a good home now and is happy playing somewhere.
Here's my 2 on the beach

Hi Val, A lovelly picture. I had to 'linger longer' as it took me back to the days with Misty. I still have a photo; of her in our garden, with the big ball we used to play with. The photo; is on my pinboard in my computer room and I see it every day.   More happy memories to keep hold of.

I have some 70 members in my Veterans Association, the average age is 65, there by giving me resourses of some 4550 years of life experiences.

To actually get any of them to do anything takes a stick of dymamite, but they all want to be a part of everything that we organise. Its hard work getting them motivated. 8)

Trouble is nothing is cheap unless you cook it yourself, you need to let students cook you a cheap meal as practise for their catering, but unless you have a catering college near its a bit difficult. They do it for hair in hair dressers don't they?

I've got a friend in Newcastle she is brilliant in getting folk to rally round, she is very confident and just goes for it. Our homes are too comfortable these days for folk to want to move much. In fact I must admit I've always struggled with events, they are always in the evening and my best time is morning so by tea time I'm finished.Even an afternoon nap leaves me ready for tele watching.

Transport is also a problem for many,we go to a catering college at christmas for our ladies group christmas meal,we have gone there for years, the ones with cars pick up the ones without.Thankfully we are all local.
